Chin Chin, the longstanding Chinese restaurant at 8618 W. Sunset Blvd., will close its doors on Sunday, July 27, 2025, after more than four decades in West Hollywood. The announcement was shared via social media, with the restaurant expressing gratitude for the years of community support.
Over the decades, we’ve celebrated countless milestones, shared unforgettable meals, and built lasting connections with our cherished guests. None of this would have been possible without your unwavering support, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
Founded in 1983, Chin Chin gained popularity for bringing Chinese-American cuisine — including dim sum and Cantonese-style dishes — to a broader audience in a modern, accessible setting. West Hollywood was the restaurant’s original location and helped define the Chin Chin brand.
While the Sunset Plaza location is set to close, Chin Chin’s other restaurants in Brentwood and Studio City will remain open. The company has also launched a GoFundMe campaign to support staff and help secure a future location.

So, it’s been over a week now since the closure has been announced. To spite all the theories the true reason Chin Chin is closing its most profitable location is that the new management of Sunset Plaza is refusing to renew their lease. I have not heard the exact reason yet.
My bet, that entire plaza and the FREE parking area in the rear (not making $$) will be sold.
Supposedly it will be torn down all the way down to Holloway…HUGE redevelopment project has been rumored for a few years now…
Sad to lose another great business West Hollywood will never learn Liberal woke policies have destroyed Weho
Reality ✅ It’s conservative small towns that are increasingly becoming ghost towns and, yes it’s a complex issue with multiple factors contributing to population decline in rural areas. They’re struggling due to economic & technological changes they can’t handle, aging populations and, a lack of opportunities for their younger residents because they lack Higher Education especially in STEM fields. Conservative social/political stances are hindering many town’s ability to attract new residents or businesses due to their reluctance to embrace modern ideas or policies.
The rise of anti-Asian hate misinformation during and shortly after the COVID-19 Pandemic, certainly didn’t help matters. With the tariffs and, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) along with the Department of Homeland Security taking a heavy handed violent police state approach to our foreign visitors, immigrants and, non-whites in general; this just might have completely destroyed our entire hospitality industry.
Is the cause to move because of the rent, labor costs (based in Weho rates) or some other reason? It wasn’t the abundance of free and easy parking. Please let us know so that we can learn more.
A gofundme is a little outrageous (and embracing victimhood) given that this 45 year old business has 2 other outlets and is looking to move to another location.
So sad to see another biz close on sunset. So many have shut down.
Thanks for the heads up.
LOL people that think a gofundme is going to save a restaurant…it didn’t save Le Petit did it?
GoFundMe page? Get outta here!
Go fund me with 2 other locations?
The audacity of this company. I had a chicken dish few months ago and it had 3 teeeny pieces in it.
This past Thursday, I think I got the chicken you were missing. My Orange Chicken must have had a pound of chicken in it. It was delicious – no complaint here.
