West Hollywood City Hall staffers will get an opportunity to walk the city’s streets with the construction of the so-called “robo garage” behind City Hall.
An item on the council’s Monday agenda seeks permission to pay LAZ Parking $90,000 to provide 70 parking for 18 months for employees at a garage at 901 Hancock Ave. at Santa Monica Boulevard and to pay ABM Parking $122,000 to provide 40 spaces at the Gateway Plaza garage at Santa Monica Boulevard at La Brea and to provide a shuttle for City Hall visitors from weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from the city’s Kings Road garage. Meetings usually held at City Hall will be moved to buildings at West Hollywood Park or Plummer Park during the 18-month construction period.
The robo garage project, on which construction is set to begin in January, will add 132 spaces to the area behind City Hall that currently houses 68 parking spaces. The city is encouraging employees to consider alternate modes of transportation, including riding a bus or a bicycle. Several deputies to city council members have objected to having to walk through West Hollywood to get to work and are said to be considering filing a complaint through their five-member union. For the most part the deputies, whose authorized salaries range from $81,000 to $104,000 a year, do not live in West Hollywood.
Sooooooooo sad that they may have to walk to work May be car pooling might help and just think of the benefits of exercise and why are we paying so much for parking most people pay for their own parking I now I have to
Maybe the city should be spending that money on more green spaces and pocket parks give the people of weho some quality of life ,,,, but don’t let the. City do the design ,,,,,reason just look at weho park as there is so much cement it looks like the Ventura free way never seen such a god awful mess of a so called park in my life ,have these people ever been anywhere except weho
Why would the city want to spend all this money on parking ,,,when the Cohen brother are suggesting that we move city hall to where there new project slated for smelllllllls
If they are renting 70 spaces for employees at a garage on Hancock, why do they need spaces at the Gateway Center, which is pretty far away? Are those for the public who have business with City Hall? Is the article not well written and the shuttle will be from there also, or is it only from the Kings Road garage where it appears they have not rented any spaces?
@Rudolf Martin – I’m sure the City thinks that the high operation costs of the robogarage will be recouped in parking fees. I’m not so sure about that. I mean if the City is going to use the garage for City employees, then the City will end up paying most of the costs of operation and maintenance. I still think buying a piece of commercial property not too far from City Hall and building a conventional structure – sort of like the Kings Road one with commercial space at street level – would have been less expensive and saved on… Read more »
The $212,000.00 for 18 months of temporary arrangements is a bargain compared to operating and maintenance costs once Robo is finished. Expect at least $500,000.00 every 12 months.
Hmmmmm. Maybe Nick Garzilli’s overhead pod system doesn’t seem so crazy now……!
I hope – while walking the streets – they do so with an eye to turning a profit whenever there is an opportunity.
I’m not sure if I read this correctly. Aside from seniors (and maybe that’s who this is intended for), who needs a shuttle to walk exactly two blocks from Kings to Sweetzer?
I heard from a deputy once he did not like to park in Kings Rd. structure because they had to tandem and have valets move their cars. Oh, Boo, hoo. Welcome to the real world.
Who are these entitled deputies who are not even citizens!?
This is sadly funny on many levels.
