City Of West Hollywood Hiring From Lifeguards To Finance Director

City of West Hollywood jobs are open again, and the current list covers just about every level of city government, from an executive director role that tops $300,000 a year to part time work at the pool and an internship inside the City Manager’s Office. If you have ever thought about working for City Hall, this is one of those moments when the door is clearly open.

According to the city’s employment page, current postings include a Director of Finance and Technology Services, several engineering roles, a staff attorney, part time recreation and aquatics positions, and an intern slot in the City Manager’s Office.

Advertised pay ranges show why these jobs are competitive. Entry level recreation positions start a little over $21 an hour, lifeguards and other temporary staff earn into the low $30s, and top tier professional roles such as the Finance and Technology Services director and staff attorney are posted with salary ranges that reach just above $300,000 a year.

A new Finance and Technology chief at the top of City Hall

The biggest role on the list is Director of Finance and Technology Services, an at will executive position that oversees the city’s budget, revenue, accounting and information technology. The salary range runs from $217,983.96 to $302,755.68 a year, reflecting the scale of the job and the size of the city’s operations.

West Hollywood operates with a Council Manager form of government and manages roughly 260 full time equivalent positions, a general fund budget in the hundreds of millions, and a significant capital program. The person in this director role will sit on the city’s executive team and help guide long term financial planning, investments and technology decisions.

Engineers to keep projects and permits moving

On the infrastructure side, the city is recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer, a Senior Plan Check Engineer and an Engineering Permit Technician. These jobs sit inside Public Works and Community Development, the departments that handle streets, capital projects and building safety.

The Principal Civil Engineer and Senior Plan Check Engineer are full time, regular status positions with salaries in the low to mid $100,000s up to the mid $180,000s. They focus on managing complex public works projects and reviewing private development plans to make sure they meet code and safety standards.

The Engineering Permit Technician is a temporary role posted at $43.59 to $55.68 an hour. It is a one year assignment that helps manage encroachment and other permits in the public right of way, working closely with contractors, utilities and residents at the public counter.

Law and housing, for people who know rent control and tenants’ rights

The Human Services and Rent Stabilization Department is hiring a Staff Attorney. It is a full time, regular status job that falls in the same general salary band as the Principal Civil Engineer, from about $143,000 to $183,000 a year.

This attorney supports the city’s rent stabilization and housing programs, an area that is central to West Hollywood’s identity and history. The work typically includes interpreting the city’s rent laws, advising staff and commissions, and helping shape policy that affects tenants and property owners across the 1.9 square mile city.

Part time work in parks, pools and recreation

If you want to pick up hours around another job or school, the city is also looking for Recreation Leader I and Lifeguard I positions, both classified as temporary and part time.

Recreation Leaders support programs in West Hollywood Park, Plummer Park and other city facilities, helping run classes, events and drop in activities. The posted pay range is $21.03 to $26.87 an hour.

Lifeguard I shifts are connected to the city’s aquatics programs, including the pools at the West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center. The posted rate is $24.35 to $31.12 an hour, and the job involves both traditional guarding and customer service with residents using the pools.

An internship inside the City Manager’s Office

For students or early career applicants, there is an Intern position open in the City Manager’s Office. The pay range runs from $20.78 to $24.03 an hour, with a posted closing date of December 5, 2025.

It is a chance to see how a small, high profile city is run from inside the main administrative office. Interns typically assist with research, special projects and day to day support for staff, which can be a useful first step toward a longer term public sector career.

How to apply, what the city expects in your application

Applications are handled online through the city’s recruitment portal. New applicants will need to create an account, choose a username and password, then build out a profile and job application that can be reused for multiple postings.

One key detail, the City makes it clear that a complete work history is required on the application itself. Uploading a resume is not enough, and writing “see resume” under duties can get an application flagged as incomplete. Incomplete applications can be rejected without moving forward.

Online applications are stored on a secure system, and only authorized employees see the information you submit. If you do not already have email, the city suggests signing up for a free account through a major provider, then using that address for your application account and notifications.

If you hit a problem with the process or have questions about any listing, the Human Resources Division can be reached at 323 848 6860 or in person at City Hall, 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Other ways to get involved

Not everyone is looking for a job, but some people still want a say in city decisions. Separate from staff positions, West Hollywood is also accepting applications for several advisory boards and commissions, including the Business Task Force, Historic Preservation and Public Safety Commission as well as Women’s Advisory and Trans Advisory Boards.

Those seats are unpaid, but they are another way residents can have a direct role in shaping policy and advising the City Council.

If you are interested in City of West Hollywood jobs, now is a good time to look closely at the current listings, update your resume, and start filling out that application. City Hall runs on people who know the community, and many of those people started with a single posting that happened to line up with the right moment in their lives.
