DEAR WEHO: As They Say In the Islands, Mahalo Plenty

“In all the excitement during the National Night Out event at the Gelson Heights Neighborhood Block Party on Flores Street, I forgot that I had a list of people that I wanted to thank in my pocket. Thank you Larry for helping me fix my oversight.

I would first like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the West Hollywood City Council, the Public Safety Commissioners, the West Hollywood Sheriff Department, the West Hollywood Fire Department, and all the other first responders and city officials who took the time to join us. Your presence truly made our National Night Out event special.

To my husband, John, and my neighbor and friend, Bill, thank you. You two had the pleasure (or perhaps the displeasure) of listening to me go over every detail of the planning and logistics, multiple times. Mahalo for never once telling me to shut up.

My co-block captain, Gabe, and I want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to our many neighbors who donated to make this such a memorable event. Your generosity is what made it possible. A special shout-out to Dave B, Giselle J, Marsha A, Omar S, Jim, Leslie W, David G, Ivan, Thomas E, Mona, and Jackie S.

We are also grateful to the local businesses that contributed. Thank you to Mark at Marix, Larry at Block Party WeHo, Ojen at the Sunset iPhone repair shop, Jessi at Starbucks, Barry at La Parc Suites, Robert at the Mondrian, Paul at Gelson’s, Kyra at Trader Joe’s, Nick & James at Barry’s, and Maritza at Pavilions.

Finally, a tremendous thank you to all the volunteers who helped with setup, worked the tables, and assisted with teardown. As the saying goes, many hands make light work, and you all stepped up in a big way. We especially want to thank Rachel, Mary Beth, Leslie, Felice, Rick, Anthony, Maui, Thomas, Anthony from 1200, John and Bill. If I have forgotten anyone, please know it was not intentional. We are very grateful for your support.

Thank you, Mahalo, Merci, Asante, Gracias, Obrigado, Salamat, Danke!”

Thank you Larry,

With regards,

Edd Holman

Thank you for putting on the event Edd! I think I live in the Gelson Heights neighborhood circle, but I’m not quite sure. How does one join the group? Is there a facebook group or email list?

Aloha Andrew. Mahalo for joining our event, I hope you had a great time. Gelson Heights is Flores St between Santa Monica and Fountain, but it can be expanded. There’s no facebook group yet but it is in the works.
