Editor’s Note:
This letter was submitted by a West Hollywood resident who has requested to remain anonymous. It concerns the upcoming Planning Commission hearing on April 3 and changes to the approved design for a development on Wetherly Drive.
Dear Neighbors,
Please attend the planning commission meeting on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:30PM at Council Chambers – 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.
An appeal has been filed for the 910-914 Wetherly project because City staff has approved MAJOR changes (listed below) to the project.
- An industrial electrical transformer — 6’ tall — was to be housed in the parking garage but now will be moved to the front of Wetherly. No transformers have been in the front of buildings on a small residential street!! It will be a huge Eye Sore.
- Elimination of most of the trees that were supposed to be on Wetherly.
- Removal of the gym and the rooftop gardens
- Adding additional Juliette balconies (not usable) and adding more bulk to an already engorged 7 story building.
The planning commission will take this matter more seriously if the entire neighborhood that is affected shows up and shows their disapproval. Please express that you are tired of projects which were approved with public feedback ending up looking completely different when built….This is not acceptable. Major changes, esp to design should not be allowed!

These same type of neighborhoods come out and protest when agencies want to build housing for the homeless ! The neighbors are enabling California politicians to pocket the money that isn’t being used for the project, because the neighbors wouldn’t allow the agency to build housing or a rehab in their neighborhood !
Shut up NIMBY. This writer is just a bigot trying to stop affordable housing. I will be letting the council know I think the project should be up zoned now.
