Quick reminder the City’s second FIFA World Cup 2026 fan zone runs this Thursday, June 25, through Sunday, June 28 in West Hollywood Park. It’s free and open to the public. The weather is expected to be perfect with sunny days and mild temps in the 70’s. Plus! This time there will be adult beverages by way of a beer garden. There’s also another kids zone with a mini soccer pitch, and the U.S. premiere of Discofoot.
What the heck is a Discofoot you ask?
Discofoot is a full soccer match, two halves, a halftime, goals. Plot twist: every player on the field must dance instead of run. Two teams of 12 compete for goals and style points both. A DJ runs music throughout. One referee and three dance judges officiate. This alone is worth coming out for.
Four 45-minute Discofoot performances are scheduled. Thursday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at 1 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.
French choreographers Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley of the Ballet de Lorraine created it in 2016, first staging it on a public square in Nancy during UEFA Euro celebrations, with 24 dancers from the company competing in the street. It has been a European phenomenon since. West Hollywood gets the first U.S. performance.
It was designed as a direct challenge to mainstream soccer culture. All genders are welcome. The format leaves no room for the “hyper-masculinity” typically associated with the sport. Everyone’s just too busy dancing.
Freestyle Soccer
Freestyle soccer performances from Osman Roa on Thursday, June 25, and Caitlyn Schrepfer on Friday, June 26 are also on the sked. Both are internationally recognized for elite ball-control skills that have helped to elevate freestyle soccer a global phenomenon.
Youth Clinics
Youth soccer clinics run throughout the weekend, presented by Angel City Football Club, Grow the Game, and Street Soccer USA Los Angeles. Open to all ages and skill levels. Advanced registration is required. Registration links are at go.weho.org/fanzones.
International Partnerships
Two match watch parties highlight the global spirit of the tournament. The Swedish Consulate hosts Thursday, June 25. The French Consulate hosts Friday, June 26.
Getting There
The West Hollywood Park Fan Zone is a Transit-First event. The City is encouraging Metro, City of West Hollywood transit, rideshare, carpooling, and active transportation. Lime is offering promo code WEHOFANZONE through June 30, covering free unlocks — $1 off — for up to four rides. Lime’s Fan Pass offers 90 minutes of ride time for $12.99, usable over five days. If you missed the first fan zone at Plummer Park it was a great success with both days drawing big crowds. Families spread out on blankets. Kids were everywhere. DJ Mark Bell kept things moving between matches, spinning funk, soul, and house. Friday night ended with Gio Reyna scoring in the final seconds of stoppage time to seal a 4-1 USMNT win over Paraguay. Last kick of the game. The crowd at Plummer Park lost it.
“The best part was the sense of community,” said Shrey, who walked over from Kings Road with Priya. “We were sitting at a table with a bunch of people we didn’t know and everyone was talking and joking around. It just felt like we were all part of the West Hollywood community hanging out.”
Priya said she’d show up regardless of where that day’s games were even being played. “You don’t need the games to be in LA,” she said. “Connecting with other people is a big part of it. If you go to something enough times you’ll start to see the same faces. I would love to go every weekend. I wish they were doing one next week. Throughout the summer, it’d be a lot of fun.”
The feeling was shared. “It was so much fun to have something nice and convenient in our community,” Garrett Szafman said. “We were looking for something exactly like this, and it just fell into our laps.”
West Hollywood Park is next. If Plummer Park is any indication, get there early.
