WeHo Rescue Me: Two Dogs at spcaLA Are Ready to Go Home

West Hollywood  became the first in the nation to ban the sale of fur, the first in North America to ban cat declawing, and in 2024 the first in the United States to ban the retail sale of all live animals. That’s the community this feature is built for.

WeHo Rescue Me is WEHOonline’s small part in helping animals find homes before they run out of time. That’s an uncomfortable thing to say. But these animals don’t have the option of looking away. Each installment spotlights an animal — or two — in need. This week it’s spcaLA, and they have a pair of dogs ready to go.

Latraus

Latraus is an 8-month-old Belgian Malinois mix at spcaLA’s South Bay Pet Adoption Center in Hawthorne. He’s still very much a puppy — smart, alert, and eager for a job. Staff say he’s highly treat-motivated and takes well to structured play like fetch and tug-of-war. He’ll do best with someone who enjoys training and can keep him engaged.

You can meet him at spcaLA’s adoption page. The South Bay Pet Adoption Center is at 12910 Yukon Ave. in Hawthorne.

Packer

Packer is a 1-year-old Australian Kelpie mix at spcaLA’s P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village in Long Beach. He already knows sit, down, and paw. He’s been vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He’s comfortable around other dogs and settles in once he’s had a real walk.

You can meet him at spcaLA’s adoption page. The P.D. Pitchford center is at 7700 East Spring Street in Long Beach.

Both locations run adoptions Wednesday through Sunday, generally 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., though hours vary slightly by location.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your life, Latraus and Packer are already fixed, tested, and ready. They just need a door to walk through.

Also wanted to highlight 300+ dogs and cats rescued this week from one Lake Hughes house (!). Many will be up for adoption imminently as their health permits- great time to visit the shelters!

Love this feature and the impetus behind it!

My little furbaby came from the Pasadena Humane Society almost 14 years ago.

People say she rescued me. Can’t disagree!
