A driver crashed into a residential building on Sweetzer Avenue Tuesday afternoon but declined medical transport after being evaluated by firefighters at the scene.
The crash happened around 2:10 p.m. on Sweetzer Avenue near Willoughby when the driver’s silver sedan collided with the multi-story apartment building. Deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded Code 3 to the scene.
A deputy on scene told WEHOonline the incident was a traffic collision and the driver appeared to be uninjured. “As far as we know right now, it’s just a traffic collision,” the deputy said. “I’m not sure if she was backing or leaving, but she seems fine. Fire treated her, and she’s not choosing to go to the hospital at this point.”
When asked by WEHOonline if she was okay, the driver said she was startled but unharmed.
It was unclear how the vehicle wound up turned around and into the building. It was also not obvious how it had its side swiped. Neighbors who heard the crash were confused. One observer chalked it up to some strange laws of physics.

Neighbor heard loud crash
Pam lives on the block and was at home from a day off working at the West Hollywood pool. She heard a loud crash that initially sounded like a dumpster being picked up and dropped.
“We just heard it. It sounded like, my guess was more like, you know, when they pick up the dumpsters. That’s what it sounded like. So when I peeked out the window, I was like, wait, how could there be a car there?”
Pam said a couple walking their dog was nearby when the crash happened. According to the couple, they did not see another vehicle drive away from the scene.
The driver told Pam she had been backing into a parking space when the collision occurred. Pam said the driver appeared to be dressed to go out and may have been visiting someone in the residential area.
“I wanted to find out where she was headed, though, because, you know, this is a very residential street,” Pam said. “She must have been parking to go visit someone.”
Neighbors offered to help the driver but the woman passed. She seemed startled and embarrassed by the incident. Can you blame her?
The driver’s car sustained front-end damage. The extent of damage to the residential building was not immediately clear, though the impact looked like it destroyed landscaping near the building’s exterior. Pam said a resident in the building had just finished working on it.
The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station has not released additional details about the collision or whether any citations were issued.
There’s certainly more to this story.
Perfect headline, though.
“… strange laws of physics”??
Laws of physics existed long before humans. If anything here was ‘strange’, my money would be on it being the driver’s skills (or lack thereof)
