The following notes from a Block by Block insider. As previously reported all the security ambassadors under Block by Block received a mass termination notice. In Thursday’s meeting General Manager of Block by Block, Erica Leon, along with Danny Rivas, Director of Community Safety for the City of West Hollywood informed ambassadors that they can re-apply for their jobs, except Leon she would be staying with the new company and would retain favorite staff. A class-action lawsuit against the company and the City of West Hollywood is under consideration.
“If Mr. Larry is interested in the current state of operations at BBB West Hollywood, it should be noticed that the Paid Time Off (PTO) tracking sheet has not been posted for the past two weeks, nor updated for the past two months. As a result, the employees have no knowledge of their PTO hours. Supervisors Jackie and Liz, who are responsible for maintaining and updating this record have failed to address the matter. This inaction appears to be tolerated due to their favored status with the General Manager Erica Leone. This is absolutely against the company and state law.”
“The meeting was brief and provided only limited information. Danny [Rivas] comment the Block by Block account in general terms, avoiding any specifics regarding ongoing operations or the transition process. He informed employees that the hiring process for the incoming company would be in approximately two weeks but did not outline the qualifications, positions or timeline for the changeover. The lack of detail left staff without a clear understanding of the next steps or how the transition process will affect their roles.”
“At the subsequent Block by Block meeting, Erica made mocking remarks about Larry Block, specifically referencing his public comment that Inter-Con would be taking over the company. She further state that your “website” contains “nonsense” dismissing its content entirely. Danny responded to these remarks with laughter, reinforcing the dismissive tone rather than addressing our concerns or clarifying the company’s position.”
“No official statement or clarification was provided to employees regarding the leadership’s stance on these claims. The absence of direct communication has contributed to ongoing uncertainty among staff and has left employees without guidance on how to respond to public speculation of community concerns about the company’s future”
“When it comes to Paid Time Off (PTO) our supervisor Liz is officially responsible and Erica Leone is the one reviewing and approving the PTO hours. The reality is, neither of them cares, and both operate without transparency or accountability. Since February, Erica has run this account through fear, firing at least twenty employees to maintain control.”
“The PTO list is not posted or accessible to staff — it exists only on Liz’s laptop with access restricted to her and Erica. This is entirely tied to the West Hollywood Block by Block account: The City [of WeHo] has nothing to do with it. What’s worse, the PTO list contains at least four people who have not worked her for years. This is very strange.”
“Any chance for employee unity is intentionally sabotaged. Erica is openly telling people she will remain in charge when the new company takes over and that she will handpick “the best’ staff – in other words, her inner circle. At the center of this is Jackie Hernandez, her right hand, who carries out the dirty work for both Erica and David Aguilar. This clique-driven favoritism has turned the account into a toxic, lawless environment that is not only breaking company policy but very likely violating state labor laws.”
Erica Leon graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2003 with a major in fashion design and merchandising. From 2006-2013 Leon was the Southwest Territory Manager for Addidas. In 2016 Leon became a Store District Manager for the Starbucks organization overseeing 23 locations in the Los Angeles area. From 2016 -2023 Leon was Director of Operations for Rumba Room Live, where she streamlined concert and event ticketing and coordinated talent booking. In Dec. 2022 through August 2023 (9 months) Leon worked with the Clean, Safety, Hospitality, and Outreach Programs in Downtown Santa Monica. In August 2023 Leon was named the General Manager of the City of West Hollywood’s Block by Block Security Ambassador Program.
[…] “I have to say, as someone who’s been watching all this unfold, it’s really upsetting. Erika Leon is suspending people left and right based on favoritism, so those people can not start with Allied. https://wehoonline.com/erica-leon-cracks-the-whip-for-block-by-block/ […]
I keep seeing posts claiming that West Hollywood must be the most corrupt place in the entire world where dangerous cliques rise to power employing the most Machiavellian tactics possible to the point that the city council would rival the senate in Ancient Rome. Really ❗ If many of these posters bothered to work outside their West Hollywood safe zone bubble, they would find that just about anything else is more like “Pirates of the Caribbean” in comparison.
It’s troubling to read about the lack of transparency and accountability described here. If the PTO records have truly not been updated or made available to employees for months, that’s not just poor management, it could amount to a violation of labor law. Employees deserve clarity about their hours, their status during a transition, and their legal rights.
People just don’t realize just how corrupt West Hollywood is and especially Danny Rivas. Code Officer came forward saying he was directed to not enforce and since then he is no longer with the city. (Yes, I called city hall and was told he is no longer with West Hollywood). First whistleblower came forward and claimed there was selective enforcement and Larry Block published the proof. Still nothing was done with Danny Rivas and he seems to have more power now. The only hope for change is a new city manager. The current executives protect one another and that needs… Read more »
The amount of lies and bs written in this article goes to show what a joke Larry block truly is. An author with no true facts. Pull the evidence out. I bet this comment won’t even be posted because Larry block could never stand the truth.
These are the words of her staff members and a copy of her linked in profile. The only thing I made up is the title.
Instead of an ad hominem attack on Larry Block, a true professional should reply with a good rebuttal that effectively dismantles the opposing argument by properly identifying weaknesses or inaccuracies, then offering counter-arguments supported by verifiable evidence and logical reasoning.
Sit down, Erica.
Quite interesting, yet impressive that David Aguilar Regional Vice President of Block by Block was able to move up the ranks to such a high profile position yet doesn’t hold any degree of any kind from anywhere.
Given the nature & scope of West Hollywood’s problems with security & safety, depending on ANY private concierge type security service, is a mission setup for failure ❗ Yes if we had dozens of Deputy Sheriffs walking the streets or Seal Team 6 for that matter, it would solve just about any problem. Realistically due to serious constraints some budgetary we need to look at other options. Sheriff’s Department Community Service Officers may just be the best of both worlds as a solution to the problem.
So as residence, are we expected to just sit down and accept this blatant attempt at governmental corruption? It amazes me just how “important” these city officials believe they are in a city no large than 1.9 miles with a resident population of just a little over 35,000. Delusions of grandeur much? And what does David Aguilar have anything to do with positions regarding the new incoming security company, when he works for the one that just got their contract cancelled? FIDM Los Angeles lost their accreditation a while ago and closed the school in its entirety just last year.… Read more »

What is BbB. I have lived if WeHo for 40 years. Amnot familiar with it?
Guessing it’s short for Block by Block.
Yes given the nature & scope of WeHo’s security problems concierge security just WON’T work. Of course sheriff’s deputies, seal team 6 or, Superman walking the streets would solve all our problems but; they’re NOT realistic options. An affordable option shown to work are Sheriff’s Department Community Service Officers (CSOs) and, with their close affiliation with law enforcement they will be taken seriously ❗
BareBackBitch which is the way I feel after taking it from Block by Block and the city for too long. Corruption at every turn.
Oh dear gawd. Now it makes sense why the new security is Allied & Securitas has already taken over some locations. Didn’t bother waiting for council approval. Any RFP under Danny cannot and should not be trusted.
Abuse of power at city hall extends citywide. Has anyone read the city executive’s profiles? What a joke. Code Officer became Head of HR. Code Manager became Head of Public Safety. No experience required only a** . Now that makes me wonder if selective enforcement is rewarded. Seems so. So why move code enforcement to safety department instead of staying with Code Enforxement? Instead city moves an entire department to public safety. Why? To make sure that selective enforcement continues? How many more people have to come here to tell their stories is hard to believe. The city is treating… Read more »
