“Automated Futures” is an experimental documentary by director Ulysses Pascal that traces the 825 miles of fiber-optic cable running from New York City to Chicago. That cable is a key element of the automated stock trading business (hence the term “futures”). The 47-minute film has no narrative, with the soundtrack only from recordings being made during the journey along the cable.
The screening is at Human Resources LA in Chinatown, founded by a team of creative types whose goal is to “broaden engagement with contemporary and conceptual art, with an emphasis on performative and underexposed modes of expression.”
