Michael was northbound on Gardner Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. Friday when a green Ford Mustang came through the intersection on Fountain and hit him.

He said the Mustang ran the red light. All of his airbags went off.

His passenger, a friend, was knocked unconscious at the scene and was out for close to a minute. Michael said she’s on several medications and he wanted her seen quickly. She was eventually loaded into an ambulance with a neck brace on and taken to a local hospital. She was conscious and alert when they took her.

An LASD deputy confirmed to WEHOonline one person was transported to the hospital. He said he was told the BMW was heading north when it got hit but said he couldn’t confirm whether the Mustang had run the light.

A firefighter on scene said he was told one of the vehicles was traveling approximately 30 miles per hour at the time of impact.

Michael was complaining that his side hurt but he didn’t want to go. Even though his side took the brunt force of the crash he said he refused medical attention. He told WEHOonline as long as he was able to “talk, breathe and stand” is only concern was for his friend.

The driver of the Mustang didn’t want to speak to us.

Ambrus and Courtney Deak were walking their dog on Vista Street when they heard the crash, the sound carrying nearly a block. They kept going and came back to find crews already on scene.

The City is in the middle of a month of signal controller upgrades at seven Fountain Avenue intersections through April 10.

Gardner and Fountain is the same intersection where Blake Ackerman, 27, was killed in a hit-and-run last July.

That’s an extremely dangerous intersection, and has been for a while. A few years ago, I was stopped at the light heading eastbound on fountain. A car heading westbound blew through the light, hit a southbound car, causing it to spin out and crash into my stopped car, totaling it and slightly injuring me in the process. But the brain trust running WeHo would rather focus on making traffic worse and causing more accidents through their ludicrous bike lane plan

This intersection is extremely dangerous. The interesting thing is thing is that this traffic signal is not one to be upgraded. I don’t understand our traffic engineers and their lack of taking care of these issues.

One can only make assumptions and deductions as to why traffic engineers, city council, & other government officials have not planted a motorcycle deputy at this location twice weekly & immediately authorized Traffic Signal Retiming. While the process is typically done every 3-5 years, this ‘would appear’ to be an urgent matter. It is baffling on a daily and weekly basis.
