Four people were injured, three of them critically, when a catering truck slammed into a tree near the Sunset Strip and dislodged a beehive today.
A sheriff’s deputy was then stung by bees, suffered an allergic reaction, and was also rushed to a hospital.
The crash was at 1200 N. Doheny Dr., just north of the West Hollywood city line, according to Los Angeles City Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart and county fire Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz. That location is in the steep
hills above the Sunset Strip.
Three patients were trapped in the truck, but were extricated in critical condition and taken to trauma centers, Stewart and Diaz said. A fourth victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to Stewart.
The three trapped victims were freed through the combined efforts of county and city firefighters at the scene, Diaz and Stewart said. All four persons were taken to a hospital at 12:50 p.m., and the cause of the crash was not immediately released. It isunder investigation.
