High Heat Advisory: WeHo Opens Plummer Park Cooling Center Wednesday

With temperatures climbing across Southern California, West Hollywood will open a public Cooling Center at Plummer Park on Wednesday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The site is the Senior Lounge inside the Plummer Park Community Center, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. Staff at the park will direct visitors to the room.

The City activates the Cooling Center when local temperatures hit 90°F or higher. Cityline offers free, ADA-accessible shuttle service to Plummer Park, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with shuttles about every 30 minutes. Route maps are on the shuttles and online at www.weho.org/cityline.

How to stay safe in the heat

  • Limit sun, seek shade, and avoid strenuous activity in peak afternoon hours.

  • Drink water often, avoid alcohol, and check on neighbors who may need help.

  • Wear light, loose clothing and use sunscreen.

  • Never leave children or pets in parked cars, not even for a minute. Interior temperatures can spike dangerously fast.

Pet safety reminder

Pavement gets hotter than the air. Use the seven-second test: touch the ground with your bare hand or foot for seven seconds. If it is too hot to hold, it is too hot for paws. Walk pets early morning or later evening, and skip hot concrete, brick, and asphalt.
