Investigation Launched into West Hollywood Hit-and-Run Fatality

The intersection of Fountain Ave & N Gardner St

A fatal hit-and-run incident occurred on July 10, 2025, around 9:47 p.m. at the intersection of Fountain Avenue and Gardner Street in West Hollywood, prompting an investigation by the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The collision involved a white older-model BMW sedan and a bicyclist, with preliminary findings indicating the sedan, traveling westbound, struck the bicyclist—also heading westbound—before fleeing the scene in the same direction.

The bicyclist was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital, where they succumbed to injuries. Authorities note the suspect vehicle likely sustained a shattered windshield on the passenger side. The cause remains under review, with no determination yet on whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

Traffic investigators are seeking public assistance, urging anyone with information to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at 310-855-8850. The case continues to be examined as details emerge.

I have friends who are bicyclists who never use Fountain because they feel it is too dangerous and why would they want to take the risk? I think, and agree with them, that bicycles should be banned on Fountain! There are many other safer streets that they can use, do use, and get to their destinations just fine without using Fountain. However, Fountain has become some kind of political football that our city council, and the developers are using to attain their own selfish goals. Rather than spend millions of dollars on protected bike lanes, which won’t really protect anybody,… Read more »

Personally, I will not ride a bike in LA on any street. Travel to any bike friendly city Amsterdam, Portland, even NYC. and you will see how terrible LA is. Actually, it’s not even safe to be a pedestrian on the sidewalk in LA.

What a poignant and so true statement. I have lived in West Hollywood for 14 years. I see how aggressive drivers were but now you have scooters mopeds vespas motorcycles Electronic bikes and Electronic scooters driverless cars, but reckless and impatient drivers cause carnage from a hit-an-run then bolt and leave the scene of the crime. Before I moved into West Hollywood, two decades ago I lived and worked in the Westwood and Beverly glen canyon area 21 years ago. I commuted on foot and bus then and still do today because of an autoimmune disease and bad reflexes and… Read more »

The sharrows are misleading representation that Fountain is safe for cyclists to use the road. Until any infrastructure is made for any type of bike lanes I would not advocate for any cyclist use Fountain Ave. The first item that should be addressed is the speed. I would rather see all intersections turn into 4 way stops. This would make the street act more residential and alleviate the speed momentum between the existing traffic signals.

You’re dreaming. There’s no such things as “protected” bike lanes any more than there are “protected” car lanes. Those painted yellow lines & flashing orange signal lights are only as “protected” as the drivers who see them – or don’t. People are injured & even killed in those “protected” lanes. Fountain Avenue, of all streets, is at the top of the list of dangerous & congested streets. IT DOES NOT NEED FURTHER DANGEROUS CONGESTION BY BICYCLES. This death is a sad & needless tragedy, but it should not be exploited for personal gripes, for political gains or gamesmanship.

Sorry to hear about this hit-and-run incident involving a white BMW sedan. Deputies say the windshield was damaged, so that is a good start in finding this vehicle.

There was no license plate noted however. Too bad witnesses could not get the plate number. Even a partial plate number could be helpful.

I put blame on the 2 council members who voted against protected bike lanes on fountain; both John heilman and Lauren Meister are the ones to blame.

What a stupid and inappropriate comment. You don’t even have any information on this hit and run but that doesn’t stop you from asserting such a moronic statement.

Um, two votes don’t kill a vote in WeHo since we have 5 councilmembers. Takes 3 votes to approve or kill a measure.

The more you know!
