Looks like Kiefer Sutherland’s West Hollywood arrest has taken a darker turn. Law enforcement sources say the “24” star punched an Uber driver multiple times and tried to choke him during a violent altercation back on January 12.
The 59-year-old Emmy winner was arrested at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue just after midnight. Police initially described it as an assault on a rideshare driver. New details from the Daily Mail and ABC News show a more violent encounter that ended with the driver running from his own car while calling 911.
The Uber driver told ABC News that Sutherland punched him repeatedly and tried to choke him. He escaped by getting out of his vehicle and running. Eyewitnesses said Sutherland appeared to be under the influence at the scene.
Dashboard camera footage exists
Authorities have seen dashboard camera footage from the Uber that may show the entire incident, sources told ABC News. No injuries required medical treatment.
The driver bolted from his vehicle during the confrontation near the busy intersection.
Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats. He posted $50,000 bond and was released. The charge carries up to three years in state prison under California law.
Charges expected next month
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed LAPD hasn’t filed a case yet. But sources within the DA’s office told the Daily Mail they expect charges next month, possibly after Sutherland’s February 2 court appearance.
Lock him up
Because of idiotic incidents like the Kiefer Sutherland attack, many ride-share drivers are installing dash cameras that look outward and toward the back seat area. I am not surprised such a camera was in operation in this vehicle. Beware if you use a ride-share service as the ride you call for could have a dashcam.
