Mattie’s, the new name for the former Rocco’s WeHo, was granted approval to stay open through 4am on Friday and Saturday nights until 4am (Sunday morning). The decision by the Business License Commission was unanimous.
Mattie’s joins both Micky’s and Beaches Tropicana as the 3rd Rainbow District bar to offer late night after hours through 4am. Greenwich Village Pizzeria and Guisados tacos are both open legally until 3am.
The staff report noted total calls for service at the other after-hours clubs. In 2025, between the hours of 2am to 4am there were 47 calls for service at Beaches Tropicana. Those calls included 12 pickpockets, 4 disturbance reports, 9 assault/battery, 2 assault with a deadly weapon, 10 grand thefts, 1 possible rape, and 6 miscellaneous calls for service.
According to the staff report during the same time period there were 41 calls for service between the hours of 2am to 4am. Those include 3 drunk/medical, 3 disturbance, 9 assault/battery, 2 assault with deadly weapon, 3 petty thefts, 10 grand thefts, 2 disturbance, 1 burglar alarm, 1 criminal threat, and 4 miscellaneous calls for service. There were zero calls for any pickpockets.
Mattie’s, which has not yet opened for after hours, had 24 calls for service in the same period between the hours of 2am and 4am. Those included 7 pickpocket, 11 drunk/medical, 4 battery, 1 robbery, 1 possible man with gun.
The staff report stated: “It should be noted that the assault/battery calls are generally related to events occurring in front of or adjacent to the businesses, and the grand theft calls were associated with suspected pickpocketing incidents. Additionally, these calls for service do not confirm that a crime occurred or indicate the final disposition of each call; rather, they reflect the volume and types of calls to which Sheriff’s Deputies responded in and/or around the area where the address of the business was used on the call. Furthermore, Code Enforcement records indicate that from January 2025 to December 2025, there were five (5) complaints received about the level of noise emitting from Mattie’s. However, Code Enforcement Officers did not confirm any noise violation present.”
The intersection of Santa Monica Blvd. at San Vicente with Mattie’s on the southwest corner, Beaches Tropicana on the northwest corner, and Micky’s just a half block east is poised to be party central for the after hours and late night crowd.
The debate over late night hours dates back to June 2022, when the West Hollywood City Council created a pilot program that would allow bars and restaurants to serve alcohol until 4am. Proponents include some local businesses along with Council member Erickson who argued the extension would boost the local economy. On the other side of the debate was former council member John Duran. Although not on the council at the time, Duran was a vocal critic of the extension. His statement, “nothing good happens between 2am and 4am,” was a reflection of his perspective as a criminal defense attorney and resident who lives along San Vicente Blvd. In the end the city council voted 3-2 against extended hours citing concerns over public safety and a clear plan for additional law enforcement to handle the extended hours.
Hey, Nimbies – the Rainbow District bar scene is one of the main drivers of our West Hollywood economy. Did you expect peace and quite if you moved in to the immediately-adjoining area?
I have a nice buffer zone between my own place and the Rainbow District, but I can stroll there. It’s not far away. It was there long before I moved in. It’s not going away. With the crowds it draws on weekends, it seems rather quaint that these places aren’t open all night.
When will law enforcement do something about the drugs being sold in the bathrooms of all of these clubs? Everyone knows about it. Isn’t one fentanyl overdose enough?
You can’t drink afterhours so I have no problem letting people sober up for a couple of hours before getting in the car. It probably saves many potential accidents and injuries.
Of course they got approval. The surrounding neighborhood’s quality of life will further deteriorate. We could at least count on sleep after 2 AM ..now well……
Queue the other bars now getting approval to stay open as well. Bye bye once good city..get ready for mayhem 🙁
Yup.
And we just keep throwing gasoline on the fire. Complete negligence on the part of the city.
We used to have a council that cared about the residents and their quality of life. . Now all they care about are the people that live outside of our city that come into our city to party. They keep pushing and pushing pushing, and they probably hope that eventually liquor sales to 4 AM will be allowed since the bars were already opened and then all the crap will continue into the wee hours of the night. As if we don’t have enough problems already. That’s what happens when you get progressive children running the show. We did it… Read more »
