MATTIE’S to Replace the Former Rocco’s WeHo

Matt Ross

MATTIE’S is the name of the newest club in the Rainbow District.  Owner Matt Ross purchased the former Rocco’s this past June, we broke the story here:  https://wehoonline.com/roccos-chopping-block/.

Plans have been in process to re-create the space and the brand.   It took a summer of preparation.   Phase1 included interior and exterior renovations and now its on to Phase2, the rebranding of Rocco’s Weho into Mattie’s Restaurant and Nightclub West Hollywood.

“We want to focus our business on West Hollywood and the LGBTQIA+ community.  If this year has shown us anything, it’s that safe spaces dedicated to our community are needed now more than ever.”   The former Rocco’s was part of a larger chain of sports bars in Los Angeles.

“The company plans to keep the most popular items from the former menu but a new menu will arrive in the coming weeks.

From the beginning we intended to recreate the experience our restaurant and nightclub offers, creating an elevated experience.   We intend it to be the type of club which you see other places like Las Vegas, Chicago or New York.  We intend for it to visually, audibly and taste wise to be a spectacle for the senses.” said Ross.

Mattie’s will continue its calendar based program schedule.  There will be special one-off ticketed events, along with a grand re-opening event to be announced soon.

Ross is a long term resident of West Hollywood.    Prior to purchasing Rocco’s, Ross served as the Director of Food, Beverage, and Nightlife at the Marriott’s Edition hotel on the Sunset Strip.

Boy the people who commented are crabby. It’s easy to be rude and nasty behind a keyboard if you do not show your face.

Matties? Sounds like “Mickey’s!” You don’t name your venue the same as another venue across the street that has been around for thirty years! I think most people who buy these Weho bars are not doing it to make a good venue, they are doing it to be THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. He may have experience at this but not at marketing! Choosing the wrong name because you want to name the place after yourself is exactly the narcissim that I just mentioned. He wants attention, not a functioning biz.

Looks like I’ll be the first to say congratulations and good luck.

My prediction is that this new “elevated” concept will be the same as every other bar in WeHo. The music will be too loud, the food will be a limited menu (just enough to satisfy the ABC) and mediocre quality (Sysco), the drinks expensive and drag shows 4 days a week.

Exactly! You want something different? Change the laws and open a bathhouse!

To truly “elevate” Weho, Boy’s Town, The Emerald City or whatever else we are currently calling ourselves, we’ll need to rid ourselves of those megaphones, trashy twerkers that block the sidewalks and the stench of pot from SMB/San Vicente to SMB/Robertson. THEN, and only then can we begin to discuss the next club.

What a load of crap.

Trying to pander to the victim culture to boost business.

Yup. Was hoping they would turn the place into a restaurant. We used to have a lot of dining options down that end of town. Now all just bars, nightclubs and drag queens. You’re so right…more of the same.
Buy hey, at least it’s not another boarded up, empty commercial space.
