Mattie’s WeHo, located at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and San Vicente, is the newest member of West Hollywood’s after-hours clubs. Last month the Business License Commission approved Mattie’s WeHo to stay open with extended hours on both Friday and Saturday nights till 4am. This past weekend was Mattie’s WeHo’s after-hours kickoff on Valentine’s Day.
Shortly after 2am early Saturday morning, an incident was reported to WEHOonline by a person who had been present at the club. The patron reported that pepper spray had been deployed. The patron stated that “a security guard at Mattie’s pepper sprayed a customer inside Mattie’s and the pepper spray was everywhere and all were forced to leave and given refunds.”
The security guard who had pepper sprayed the customer told others that he deployed the pepper spray because he felt his life had been threatened by the customer.
Matthew Erwin, General Manager of Mattie’s WeHo, confirmed the incident and explained that they are still investigating the events of the night that led to the sudden close of after hours. Erwin confirmed that pepper spray was deployed and everyone had left. “We chose to issue refunds as we were unsure if we would reopen but chose to close for the day,” he said.
Micky’s WeHo and Beaches Tropicana, along with Mattie’s WeHo, are the only three bars in the Rainbow District approved for after-hours operations from 2am to 4am on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Security protocols should be more rigorously reviewed by the Business License Commission; they appear to conduct only a cursory investigation when extending these hours. The need for a stronger security review is probably justified because, as the… Read more »
And this is news?
Wow:( not good. Now allowing this bar to stay open till 4am will build a case to grant the ability to all in weho. Will not be good ….
This is the 3rd bar allowed to stay open till 4am. Keep up 🙂
and how is that good? more will follow suit..
No, it’s not good for the community. And the businesses can’t be making that much money since no alcohol is served. We’ve had problems with noise and now it lasts to 4 AM on the weekends. It’s really ridiculous.
