Men’s Health Foundation is opening a new clinic in West Hollywood on July 13.
The location is 8745 Santa Monica Blvd., on the second floor above Schmitty’s bar. The address was chosen specifically because of its visibility and proximity to places residents already go — gyms, restaurants, grocery stores. The idea is that healthcare shouldn’t require a special trip.
The new clinic is an expansion. It doesn’t replace any of MHF’s existing locations.
Services will include rapid HIV and STI testing and treatment, plus access to long-acting injectable HIV prevention options. The injectables are medications administered every one to two months instead of a daily pill. They have fundamentally changed how HIV prevention gets delivered, particularly for those who struggle with daily medication adherence. Primary care, sexual health, and behavioral health services will come later in the summer and fall.
LA County tallied more than 76,000 STI cases in 2024. Chlamydia was the bulk of it — 59 percent. Gonorrhea was 30. Syphilis was 11, and syphilis is the one that’ll kill you if you let it go. Three straight years of declines across all three. That’s real progress. Thing is, nobody in public health is celebrating — not with federal funding getting gutted at the same time. This past year LA County laid off 76 HIV and STD program staffers after federal funding got pulled. The proposed elimination of CDC HIV prevention funding alone would take out more than a billion dollars in programs nationally. The floor is not as solid as the trend lines suggest.
HIV diagnosis rates among males in LA County have declined over the past decade, but stark disparities remain. Black males are diagnosed at rates nearly double those of Latino males, who are diagnosed at rates double those of white males. The county’s 2025 HIV Snapshot, released in April 2026, shows new HIV positivity at contracted testing sites fluctuating between 0.3 and 0.5 percent in 2025.
Men’s Health Foundation was founded in 2014 by Dr. Anthony Mills, an HIV specialist and assistant professor of clinical medicine at UCLA. Mills trained at Duke and completed his residency and fellowship at UCSF. He also serves as president of Southern California Men’s Medical Group and principal investigator at Mills Clinical Research, which has run numerous HIV clinical trials. MHF now operates two other West Hollywood locations — a rapid testing clinic at 8280 Santa Monica Blvd. and a primary care practice at 9201 W. Sunset Blvd. — along with SoCal Club locations in West Hollywood and South Los Angeles, which serve gay, bisexual, and transgender men of color up to age 29 with health services, fitness classes, and community programming.
Medi-Cal patients will be served at the new location. The clinic opens July 13.
