It looks like the Mickey Rourke’s GoFundMe drama has found its latest chapter in a West Hollywood hotel room.
The 73-year-old Oscar nominee is currently staying in a local hotel after being served with an eviction notice for $60,000 in back rent at his previous residence.
Apparently, Mickey wants no part of it. He took to IG to dismiss and dismantle a crowdfunding campaign that was set up to raise money on his behalf and help avoid the eviction. The GoFundMe, which was nearing its $100,000 goal, was launched by his own management team, a move Rourke now says is a public embarrassment.
“It’s Not My Style”
Wearing a cowboy hat, with his rescue dog Lucky on his lap, Rourke appeared shaken in a video sent out to his half-million followers. He didn’t just decline the help; he pretty much torched the very idea of it.
“I’d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger,” Rourke said, saying he had no idea what a GoFundMe even was. “I would never ask strangers or fans for a nickel… It’s humiliating and fucking embarrassing.”
The disconnect between Rourke and his management team is kinda jarring by Hollywood standards. That kind of high-profile miscommunication between a client and those guiding his career and image rarely happens. An assistant to Rourke’s longtime manager told The Hollywood Reporter the fundraiser was set up with his permission. The manager later suggested that while he may have initially agreed to the idea, he likely didn’t understand the public optics of a “charity” campaign.
The WeHo Limbo
For now, Rourke remains in a WeHo hotel, a temporary fix for someone facing the loss of his permanent residence. While his management paints a picture of a team trying to save a client from the streets, Rourke’s rejection suggests to some he’d rather lose his home than his pride. It could also be he’d prefer to lean on friends for help rather than strangers. He promised his longtime attorney, Bill Sobel, would get it processed. Sobel is one of Hollywood’s leading legal reps for big stars.
“All things will pass,” Rourke told his fans, while hinting at some kind of betrayal, saying there is only one person he suspects of initiating the fund behind his back. “I hope it’s not the person I’m thinking about.”
How long will this campaign last?
Sounds like he needs a new manager if his manager doesn’t know his client well enough to know he wouldn’t understand the optics of a charity campaign
