NoScrubs launched in West Hollywood last month with a pitch: your laundry back in four hours, clean and folded, starting at less than $1 per day.
Dustin Roscoe, who runs operations for the app-based service in LA, told WEHOonline that West Hollywood and Santa Monica tie for most of their orders.
“We service West Hollywood, where the majority of our orders originate,” Roscoe said. “Our laundromat partners in that area tend to get more crowded in the afternoon.”
The company launched December 2nd across LA’s Westside—West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Venice, Culver City, plus mid-city neighborhoods like Fairfax and West Adams. They’ve expanded slightly by zip code since then.
How it works
Darneatha Lawrence works as a NoScrubs associate, walked WEHOonline through the process.
You place an order through the app. Lawrence gets notified and heads to the address. She photographs the pickup bag for verification, drives to the nearest laundromat, weighs everything, then catalogs each item on camera.
“I record every item,” Lawrence told WEHOonline. “That’s just to make sure that they can’t say, ‘Hey, I’m missing something.'”
The video cataloging protects both sides. Customers can’t claim lost items that weren’t there. Associates have proof of what they handled.
She washes, dries, folds, and delivers back—usually within four hours for loads under 20 pounds. Lawrence says folding is her favorite part.
“It’s therapeutic,” she said.
Larger orders take longer. So do late-night pickups when traffic slows things down.
“If you place your order later at night, it tends to take a little bit longer,” Roscoe said. “Our team is just trying to get through the city, get to the laundromat.”
The pricing model
A one-time order costs $40. The subscription is where the “less than $1 per day” comes in—$17.50 per month gets you one pickup.
Most customers need laundry done more than once a month. Average order size runs about 30 to 32 pounds across LA, according to Roscoe.
The company competes with traditional laundromats that offer their own pickup and delivery services. Roscoe told WEHOonline that NoScrubs is usually 30 to 50 percent cheaper than those services, and faster—same day versus multiple days.
“Mini laundromats don’t offer pickup and delivery, and if they do, it’s often pre-scheduled and multiple day turnaround,” Roscoe said.
Partnering with laundromats
NoScrubs doesn’t own washing machines. They partner with local laundromats instead, providing them incremental revenue during slow periods.
“Most of the time these machines are sitting unused, unutilized,” Roscoe told WEHOonline. “So it’s incremental revenue for them.”
The company uses what they call “The Sister Test” when selecting partners.
“Would you feel comfortable sending your sister to that laundromat?” Roscoe said. That’s the starting point, plus evaluating machine condition and overall cleanliness.
The app tells associates which laundromats are busy, slightly busy, or available. If someone shows up and no machines are open, they can request directions to the next location.
AI monitoring
The company uses AI to flag problems throughout each order. Associates photograph pickup and drop-off locations. AI compares the images. If they don’t match, customer support gets an alert.
“In that scenario, AI flags it, and then we reach out to our laundry partner, our associate, to go and just confirm that they dropped it off in the right location,” Roscoe said.
The system also checks weights and evaluates folding quality, automatically flagging subpar work before orders return to customers. The company reports a 4.9 rating on Google.
Why West Hollywood
Roscoe told WEHOonline that demographics and apartment buildings drove the West Hollywood launch decision.
“It’s definitely tied to concentration of apartments without in-unit laundry,” he said.
The company is working on partnerships with apartment buildings. Some buildings in other cities pre-purchase NoScrubs for residents as an amenity. Others share promo codes.
“We’re actively working on this with our growth team,” Roscoe said. “And if anyone’s interested in partnering with us, please reach out.”
NoScrubs also services some boutique gyms and Pilates studios in LA. Fast turnaround drives that business, Roscoe said.
The funding and vision
Founder Matt O’Connor was employee #20 at Instacart, where he worked on geographic expansion. He started NoScrubs in 2024 after experiencing frustration with slow, expensive laundry services.
The company recently raised $2 million from Initialized Capital and Frontier Ventures, bringing total funding to $4.2 million. The capital will go toward expanding AI quality control systems, clothing data algorithms, robotics, and autonomous delivery capabilities.
NoScrubs operates in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Miami, and San Francisco. LA marks the latest expansion.
O’Connor says people spend two years of their lives doing laundry. NoScrubs wants to make that a task of the past.
“In five years, ideally, we figured this out,” Roscoe told WEHOonline. “People are using and utilizing our service enough where people just don’t have to do laundry anymore.”
For West Hollywood residents interested in trying the service, plans start at $17.50 per month for one pickup, with options for more frequent service. The service is available through the NoScrubs app or at noscrubs.com.
