OpEd: I Go To Cedars-Sinai But My Doctor Is In Seattle, New York, and ‘the Midwest’

A few years back, a friend introduced me to the old man who lived across his hallway. Ed was 99 years old and soon to be 100.

When Ed was asked, “What is the secret to living so long?” he replied, “Cedars-Sinai.” A few blocks away from his home on Westmount is one of the world’s top medical centers, the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been huge changes in the way many patients see their doctors. Technology is changing medicine. Hospitals are streamlining. Old records stored in file cabinets are moving to the cloud. Artificial intelligence is being implemented in many aspects of care, from reading and understanding data to coordinating medical records among various doctors and synthesizing the  needs of each individual patient.

Recently, I had started on a GLP-1 medication. It seemed fine at first, but I started getting sick. Through Cedars Connect, I’m able to get in touch face to face with a doctor on the same day, within minutes.  Each month I’m required to check back in with an update.

My first visit was with a doc in Seattle.  Last month New York City.    This week ‘the midwest’ she said.

These doctors are employees of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  It is only available to California residents as Cedars-Sinai is not licensed to practice in other states.

The goals to enhance primary care, and through CS Connect provide 24/7 service anytime.  The visits are more personal than a waiting for an appointment, driving to the doctor’s office and parking, checking in reception and waiting, and then 5 minutes with a rushed doc.

The time we had was ours. My doctor was able to look at my Medicare insurance and help me along with other benefits that might be available to me.  I was able to question the doctor, too. “How do you get to work for Cedars and be in New York?” and he explained, “There are just not enough doctors to go around, and Cedars-Sinai was smart and they recruited many new, best doctors to service their patients.”

Cedars-Sinai is not only our hometown hospital, but it is a leader in digital health innovation.  Cedars-Sinai Connect is on the fast track for remote monitoring and meeting patients where they live. So, yes, you can move to Palm Springs and still have your docs at Cedars-Sinai.

It’s good to know that Cedars-Sinai is right around the corner. But it’s great to know that Cedars-Sinai Connect offers on-time attention to all their patients’ needs whenever you need.

Thanks to all my friends at Cedars-Sinai!

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ranks among the top U.S. hospitals, often No. 2 nationally and No. 1 in California by U.S News and World Report  For global rank #34 in Nesweek’s World Best Hospitals 2025.

As of the latest data available Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has 915 licensed bed in its main tertiary care facility.   The Saperstein Critical Care Tower within the center has 150 beds dedicated to critical care.  System-wid, including its affiliates in Marina Del Ray and partner rehab centers Cedars manages over 1050 licensed beds in total.

Good to know. Which GLP-1? and how were they able to help with your sickness?
