A change.org petition calling for the resignation of Council member Lauren Meister has begun. The author of the petition is Darryl Sherr and the Safer Fountain Avenue Now organization.
A draft of the petition has been circulating among community members as well as various appointed officials. Sherr is the founder of the LGBT Parents Group and the father of two children. Sherr is also a supporter of the Fountain Ave. Streetscape and reductions of Fountain Ave. to one lane each way which Meister opposed.
The motivation to the petition appears to be the recent death of Blake Ackerman this past Thursday evening. Ackerman was riding his bicycle along Fountain Ave. at 9:45 pm when he was killed.

Turn Fountain Ave. back into the neighborhood street is was 1970s BEFORE LA County bulldozed a mini freeway in unincorporated West Hollywood.

Please stop perpetuating the trouble & turmoil & stop victimizing Lauren Meister about something you erroneously interpret to be her fault & attack her personally & seek to remove her from office. Council member Lauren Meister is a voice of sanity on the Council so of course they want her gone.
If I agreed with any politician all the time I’d have to check myself. Beyond any differences of opinion and over the years, I have chosen to vote for someone who deliberates thoroughly and can elucidate points that others may have overlooked. Meister.
Lauren is at best a mediocre council member. She cow tows trying to be a progressive and supported sepi shine and look what happened to the city and she is cold as ice.
It appears Lauren Meister has a following among the childless cat ladies who support cars and cats over people.

Let’s just dig up West Hollywood and plunk it down in some unpopulated county. Then we can close up all the borders, ban all cars and just use electric lime scooters and tofu-powered e-bikes. Of course we’d have no jobs and no tourism, but it would be nonetheless paradise.
Simply said, the author of this petition is an utter idiot in calling for the resignation of Meister. Wow, just wow.
Using this tragedy as a means to (1) attempt to disgrace the ONLY councilmember who actually does her job 100% and has the community interest as her only priority, and (2) promote a stupid and ill-thought out idea to screw up Fountain Avenue for a small minority of bike riders is disgusting and immature.

Appalling defamation petition. Meister has been the voice of reason for many years. She opposed the flawed Chevron car wash project at LaCienega and Holloway that all the other city council members at the time, plus the Planning Commission approved. Thankfully, that prohect is now dead in the water due to the entitlements expiring, a rejected attempt by the owner to try and foist a dubious public event on the neighbors, and major objections by local residents. The obvious smear campaign on a revered city council member and former mayor reflects an identical ugly tactic witnessed during the recent city elections. Makes one think that maybe Stephen Miller’s toxic MAGA talents were tapped as a model for the petition.

A terrible tragedy happened and a lovely young man lost his life. But that’s no reason to use it as a political football as some people are trying to do right now. They are trying to create a scapegoat by skewering the one friend on the city council that the citizens of West Hollywood have. Lauren Meister is the one who started the streetscapes project in the first place. LA is a car city. Riding a bike (even with bike lanes) is asking for trouble. Generally three cars go thru every turning red light. This isn’t Denmark or Holland…..so stop pretending it is.
