Planning Commission selects David Gregoire at Chair

The West Hollywood Planning Commission unanimously elected David S. Gregoire.   Stacey Jones was elected Vice-Chair in a close 4-3 vote.    The commission paid farewell to outgoing commissioners Michael Lombardi, and Erick Matos.

Mayor Byers appointee to the Planning Commission Andrew Solomon nominated Gregoire,  which was seconded by Council member Meister’s direct appointee Lynn Hoopingarner.   Gregoire carried the vote unanimously.

The vote for Vice Chair was much closer,  Solomon nominated Jones, which was seconded by Gregoire, while Lombardi nominated Hoopingarner and seconded by Rogerio Carvalheiro.  Jones secured votes from Harris, Solomon, Gregoire, and herself; Hoopingarner received votes from Carvalheiro, Lombardi, and herself.

Lombardi’s farewell resonated deeply: “It’s been a pleasure serving as chair. This role is often criticized, and the work is not always acknowledged. I’m impressed by the thoughtfulness you bring, how professional you are, how much you care.” He reflected on challenging meetings, including record-long sessions, and thanked colleagues for their support, adding, “I have learned a ton.”

Acting Director of Community Development Jennifer Alkire echoed the sentiment, thanking Lombardi for his “grace” in handling major projects and policy items. She also recognized Matos, who served since June 2023, noting, “He lent insight to a number of really good projects, and we will miss him.” Alkire welcomed new Commissioner Jesi C. Harris, expressing excitement for the future.

Gregoire admitted, “I’m a little nervous, but I think I’m up to the task,” drawing on lessons from past chairs.
