RioZonas Açaí Café has officially closed the doors of its West Hollywood outpost. Located at 8603 Santa Monica Boulevard beneath Trader Joe’s, the café was known for its vibrant açaí bowls, smoothies, juices, and other health-conscious fare. This week, the storefront was cleared out, ending the shop’s roughly three-year run in the neighborhood.
Founded in 2015 as a family business, RioZonas aimed to bring an authentic açaí experience to Los Angeles. The company quickly built a reputation not only for its menu but also for its community values — earning certification from the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce and participating as an approved supplier in the SUPER BOWL LVI Business Connect program.
The closure comes one week after West Hollywood’s Pride weekend, where RioZonas marked its final hurrah with a celebratory social media post: “We brought flavor and love to the heart of WeHo 🌴💜 Happy Pride from RIOZONAS 🏳️🌈”
While the reason for the closure hasn’t been publicly disclosed, RioZonas continues to operate locations in Studio City and North Hollywood. After the success of its second store, the company broadened its offerings to include a wider range of healthy food and drink options.
West Hollywood won’t be left without sweet treats for long. The storefront is already being renovated to make way for Gelati, a dessert shop offering gelato, crêpes, açaí bowls, fresh fruit, ashta, waffles, and more. “Scoop, there it is! 🍦 West Hollywood, get ready — Gelati location #4 is coming soon. You didn’t think we’d forget about you, did you?” Opening Soon- Stay Tuned ☺️
According to a source, Gelati could open as early as next week.
