Help Keep Public Spaces Clean and Safe for All
The City of West Hollywood has launched the Scoop The Poop campaign to promote responsible pet ownership and maintain clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces for everyone.
“It takes just 20 seconds to be a good neighbor,” said Councilmember Lauren Meister. “Pet waste left on sidewalks, parkways, or in parks creates health hazards, unpleasant odors, and unsanitary conditions for people and animals alike. Let’s all do our part and clean up after our pets.”
Known for its pet-friendly environment, West Hollywood supports animal welfare through pet-friendly parks and renter protections. The Scoop The Poop campaign reinforces this commitment by urging pet owners to pick up after their animals and keep dogs leashed in public spaces.
Uncollected pet waste can spread harmful bacteria and parasites, posing risks to health and the environment. Similarly, unleashed dogs in non-designated areas can create safety issues for other pets, children, and residents. Local regulations, including the West Hollywood Municipal Code and Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control Ordinance, mandate leashing dogs and disposing of pet waste to protect community well-being and keep the city vibrant.
Starting April 2025, the campaign will feature public service announcements (PSAs) on digital transit shelters, pedestrian kiosks, and displays in city parks and facilities. These messages highlight the quick, simple act of cleaning up and the health, environmental, and legal reasons to comply.
The City is also exploring improved signage in parks and reviewing the placement of its 100+ pet waste stations to determine if more are needed to support the initiative.

federal law enforcement

Dog pee does, and has done, more harm to all the local infrastructure than any other substance. Look around! Everything. Everything is fowled by the stain and stink of dog pee. Every tree, bush, stairway, letterbox, lamp post, sign post, bollard, entryway, fence, gate, trash can, garbage can, dumpster, building corner, car tire, building corner, traffic light, etcetera, and on-and-on are covered with filthy, stinky dog pee
There is an Asian guy who walks his dog on N. Olive just south of Sunset next to the Pendry who lets his dog poop on the sidewalk and he doesn’t pick it up. I walk there usually between 7:00AM and 8:00 and I’ve seen this twice in just the last two weeks. There are always tracks of poop on that sidewalk that people have walked through, so I suspect this guy does this on a regular basis. The guy is maybe 5’10”, and 35-40. PSA’s will have absolutely no effect on people like this guy. He knows full well… Read more »
