The Business License Meeting was cancelled after Starbucks pulled their requests to open at 4:30am.
10/6 Starbucks Asks Business License Commission For Earlier Opening Hours
On the docket this Tuesday at the Business License Commission is request for approval from the Starbucks Corporation for earlier opening hours.
The company has two applications in front of the BLC. Starbucks located @ 8951 Santa Monica Blvd. at the corner of Robertson and the Starbucks located @ 8539 Sunset Blvd. #2, @ Londonderry Place.
Staff report noted other extended hour permits currently in place along both Santa Monica and Sunset Blvd.
Guisados @ 8937 Santa Monica Blvd is open until 3am on Thursday through Saturday. Greenwich Village Pizzeria @ 8935 Santa Monica Blvd. is open until 3am daily. Beaches Tropicana nightclub at 8900 Santa Monica Blvd. is open until 4am on Saturday and Sunday. Micky’s nightclub also has an extended hours permit to open until 4am on Saturday, Sunday, and Mondays.
Along Sunset Blvd., Mel’s Diner is open 24 hours, and Pink Dot is open until 4am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
The staff report also discusses calls for service to the Sheriff during those extended hours comparing data from July 2023 to August 2024, and July 2024 to August 2025 between the hours of 4:30am to 6:00am.
On Santa Monica Blvd, there was a total of 54 calls for service in the first period and declined to 38 calls for service in the second period. The unhoused were responsible for 34 calls of the 54 in period 1, and 21 calls in period 2. Business disturbance and Battery/Assault were the next most common reasons for calls for service.
On Sunset Blvd. there was calls for service to the Sheriff increased from 35 calls to 42 calls. In both cases ‘unhoused’ were responsible for 31 of those calls for service.
The Pot Business License Commission will only allow it if they sell morning joints with their coffee.
