Updated: Starbucks to Close LaBrea/Santa Monica location and Keep Robertson/Santa Monica Open.

Confusion for the day was settled.   Earlier this morning at 5am, Starbucks corporation sent a text thanking patrons and today would be the last day of service at Robertson and Santa Monica.  At 6:30a I went to the location and learned from the store employees that they were not aware of the closing.   The article below was published at 8am this morning.  Since that time Starbucks has corrected the record and posted the letter below this paragraph apologizing for the mistake:

8am:   Is Starbucks @ Santa Monica and Robertson Closing Today?

The title of this article originally read, “Starbucks, located at 8449 Santa Monica Blvd. at the corner of Robertson and Santa Monica is closing today.”

An email arrived to customers this morning with the following announcement:

Dear Customers,  We have made the very difficult decision to close the Santa Monica & Robertson location by the end of the day today, September 27.   We know this may be hard to hear– because this isn’t just any Starbucks.  It’s your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made, and countless cups of coffee were enjoyed.

A trip to the store at 6:30 am for a photo led to the change of the title.  An employee at the store said they have not received any notice of the closure and that ‘it was a mistake’, with the actual closure to be the other Starbucks located at the Target Center on La Brea.

The sudden notice came as a suprise.  A note on the store window indicated there is an application for an extended hours permit with a hearing date of October 7th.   The application asks for an extended hour permit to allow for early opening at 4:30 am.  A recent list of 32 Starbucks locations set for closure throughout California did not include the West Hollywood location.

The new CEO of the Starbuck’s corporation is Brian Niccol.   Niccol took the helm in September 2024 and implemented a turnaround strategy that includes an improved focus on the customer experience, operational efficiency, streamlining menu, and returning to their core values.  Two days ago the company launched its new “Back to Starbucks” campaign.

On September 11th, Starbucks opened its 1st flagship store in Madrid, Spain as it continues its international expansion.

On September 16th, the Starbucks corporation was named the official partner of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA.

Starbucks closed its other West Hollywood location at Santa Monica @ Westmount on July 22nd, 2022.

That target area is filled with homeless. They shoot up in the stairwells. And scream at people entering Starbucks. I’m not surprised.

Pot Shops and Dive Bars. This is the unescapable outcome from decades of bad policy.

The city focuses on all the wrong people.

The people who work, pay taxes, obey laws, raise families producing net-contribution children, volunteer (quietly, without fanfare or narcissism) are ‘privileged’ and must be made to suffer. Progressivism repeatedly tried and failed to improve the net-consumer classes – hereditary criminals, intergenerational welfare clans, chronic drug addicts. They can’t be fixed, so the next best thing is to piously (wokely) degrade and ruin the public commons so you (tax payer) can’t have nice things you and your families built and paid for. It’s not enough to just leach endlessly from your wage and profit, you must be made to suffer, because… Read more »

Um, the heteronormative handjob you started your essay with describes the straight people who moved into beautiful LGBTQ+ WeHo 20 years ago and pushed most of the gays out. So you have no one to thank but your lazy, tasteless selves for the crash & burn wannabe-Hollywood Blvd. that this city has become.
