Hudson House was part of the Vandelay Hospitality Group, a Dallas-based company led by founder and CEO Hunter Pond. It opened its doors on January 30, 2022, marking the group’s first venture into the Los Angeles dining market. The restaurant was inspired by East Coast seafood dining, offering a menu that featured raw bar items like oysters and shrimp cocktails and American classics such as lobster rolls and cheeseburgers.
The interior design leaned into a clubby atmosphere with dark wood accents, plaid patterns, and leather booths. Beyond its core menu, Hudson House also boasted an extensive martini selection and weekend brunch options, adding to its appeal.
The closure coincides with a wave of restaurant shutdowns along Sunset Boulevard. Notable examples include Rock & Reilly’s and Le Petit Four, both of which also closed in March 2025, reflecting a challenging period for the local dining scene.
In the note posted at the restaurant, Fojo wrote:
“We are saddened to announce the closure of Hudson House at 9255 Sunset Blvd. as of March 19, 2025. We sincerely thank you for your loyalty and support over the years. It has been an honor to serve you and be part of your special moments.”
No official reason for the closure was provided. With this shutdown, Vandelay Hospitality Group’s first Los Angeles venture comes to an end, though the company continues to operate other restaurant concepts in Dallas and beyond.
Rents, min wage and menu prices are making it too hard for businesses to thrive in Weho. Half is SMB is vacant ii addition to two entire city blocks, designated for development, that have been sitting empty for years now.
I read somewhere that there is trend of people not going out to dine as much as they did before the COVID-19 pandemic. After the pandemic was over, people got into the habit of staying home and ordering out instead. Also the increasing dining prices may have something to do with this trend as well.
We still have Donato and Michael Cimmarrusti’s Connie & Ted’s, fine seafood restaurant where in over fifty visits, I’ve never had a less than stellar meal, from Black cod to sea urchin. And fine martinis to boot!
Sunset is a ghost town and keeps getting worse. How do we get this to change?
It’s really too bad Hudson House is closed. This restaurant is exactly what I love, seafood and martinis and yet I never knew it was there until just last month. It sat street level at the very last building on Sunset Boulevard before the residential portion takes over. That stretch is dead dead dead and dark. Better placement and some advertising may have saved it. Hell, Salty Girl has a similar menu and a perfect location (and horrible food) and is alive and well.
