It was Friday the 13th. And for one small boy and his family in West Hollywood, it almost lived up to its reputation. Almost. In the end, they beat the curse. And on a day when luck is in short supply, this little family had plenty of it.
In a rather dramatic scene near the entrance to Plummer Park, a toddler was taken to the hospital Friday after a car hit him.
It happened at Martel Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. Someone called 911 saying a person had been hit by a car. Deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station responded Code 3. Firefighters and paramedics also responded to the scene.
Deputies got there and found the boy and at least one adult at the scene. The stroller was nearby. Paramedics loaded the toddler into an ambulance. A second person, an adult was also in the ambulance.
“Where’s My Son!”
A man pulled up in a BMW sedan not long after, jumped out and ran straight for the ambulance doors. He was pounding on them, demanding to see his son.
“Where’s my son? What’s wrong with my son? Where’s my son? Let me see my son! Let me see my son!” he yelled.
Responders worked to calm him down. Then the doors opened.
He reached in toward the boy. “Come outside. It’s Papa! Papa!” The child was crying hard. “What happened?” the father asked the little boy, pulling him close. “It’s okay my sweet boy, it’s Papa. Papa’s here. Momma loves you. Momma’s on her way.”
The boy was scared and shaken, and the reunion was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see.
Deputy: Driver May Not Have Known
No suspect was identified. The driver was not on scene when deputies arrived. The toddler’s condition wasn’t officially confirmed. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can call the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310) 855-8850.
In the end, the moment that defined the scene wasn’t the crash. It was a father reaching into an ambulance, finding his son alive, and saying “Papa’s here.” On Friday the 13th, the unluckiest day on the calendar, this little boy turned out to be one of the luckiest.

This is the weirdest thing I have ever read.
So the kid was in the care of other adults?
Wondering the same thing.
Not sure what happened here but I’m always shocked when people push a stroller into the crosswalk in front of them before looking to see if all vehicles have stopped. They think crosswalks are some kind of imaginary force field that protect them. Same with people walking dogs or those not on a leash ( dogs not humans, although some should be leashed… but I digress). Glad the boy is ok even though nerves were shot. This could have been very tragic.
Yes, I agree. I almost hit a dog who was on a long leash and had entered traffic while its owner was safely looking both ways before she crossed.
