UNITE HERE Local 11 endorses John Erickson for California’s 24th State Senate District, giving the West Hollywood City Councilmember a key labor boost in his campaign for the open State Senate seat.
UNITE HERE Local 11’s support for Erickson was widely expected. WEHOonline was first to report Erickson’s early announcement. And our early prediction of UNITE HERE Local 11 support for Erickson’s State Senate campaignwas published on June 18.

In his announcement, Councilmember Erickson touted his support for workers: “I’m honored to receive the endorsement of UNITE HERE Local 11, one of the most powerful unions representing hospitality and restaurant workers. These are the workers who keep our hotels running, our restaurantsa thriving, our airports and convention centers moving and our tourism economy strong, and they deserve leaders who fight as hard for them as they fight for all of us.”
Erickson has lined up an impressive list of endorsements. In addition to UNITE HERE Local 11, he has garnered the support of SEIU California, representing hundreds of thousands of union members, the Westside Young Democrats, the California Federation of Teachers, and the National Union of Healthcare Workers, to name a few. His rich endorsement list also includes California State Treasurer Fiona Ma and three Los Angeles County supervisors, Lindsey Horvath, Janice Hahn, and Hilda Solis, to name a few.
The State Senate primary will be held on June 2, 2026. The top two vote-getters will go head to head in the November 2026 election to represent District 24 in the California State Senate.
This endorsement isn’t surprising, but it’s still significant. UNITE HERE Local 11 backing Erickson underscores his long-standing alignment with workers’ rights and labor issues, especially in hospitality and service industries that are so central to the district’s economy. Combined with the growing list of labor, Democratic, and county-level endorsements, it’s clear his campaign is building serious momentum early. It will be interesting to see how this shapes the race as it moves forward.
“Unite Here 11 keeps our airports and convention centers moving”
Like they did over Thanksgiving? Blocking traffic into LAX? What joke.
This union needs to be investigated.
Of course they did!!!! They own him. God help us if he gets more power on a state level. More of the same bullish*t.
I wonder who unite here will put in his seat on our council if he wins since they have the power to appoint his replacement.
Mark Edwards. The Unite Here majority rushed his appointment through on the planning commission recently.
One can only hope that voters Googling John Erickson will come across comments such as these by those unfortunate enough to have been “served” by him.
Not content to ignore the residents of just one city, he now aspires to take his ignorance and arrogance to another level.
As Maya Angelou famously wrote, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them. “
YUP. Truth!
The name on the office of the door in Sacramento would read, “Senator Unite Here Local 11 (D, West Hollywood)”. Daniele Wilson would have her own office in the suite. Everything Erickson does is run through the prism of what Unite Here wants. Everything.
This will ensure that Erickson will continue to outsource his decision making to union leadership instead of focusing on the needs of his constituents. He will never get my vote.
What a surprise! Grifters and thieves support one another.
What a damn joke. Unite Here wants to buy the State of California through Erickson. And none of the other endorsers have lived under Erickson’s city council tenure. He will sell anyone out for endorsement and a pocket lining. An embarrassment to the City of West Hollywood and a determent to the state of California. NO ON ERICKSON. Never. No way. No again.
