WeHo City Beefs Up Security Surveillance For Halloween

In preparation for West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval this friday WeHo City has deployed new surveillance cameras.   The temporary cameras were installed yesterday and will be then be removed on November 1st, after the Halloween festivities.

Allied Universal Security told WEHOonline that 15 additional cameras are being installed on light posts up and down Santa Monica Blvd.    The cameras will be monitored at the Allied Universal command center across from Plummer Park on the cities east side.

Over the course of history there have been few public safety problems during the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval.   In 2013 there was on fatal fire-related incident and in 2016 an arrest for domestic violence.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic Halloween Carnaval was cancelled during years 2021-2022.

The main problem in past years has been crowd control with an expected attendance greater than 100,000 persons.   Proper planning has helped to mitigate those issues   The City has requested that attendees leave pets and children at home.

The City of West Hollywood and the Los Angeles County Sheriff deploy a large number of uniformed and undercover deputies during major events.   In addition to heightened law enforcement the Sheriff uses barricades to protect the event perimeter along Santa Monica Blvd.

WeHo’s Public Safety campaign “If You See Something, Say Something,” encourages all attendees to report suspicious activity.

This says greater than 100,000 people and the city has estimated at high as 500,000. Surely someone has a better estimate

Leave the cameras up all the time. They can only help. Although I don’t know how much comfort it brings that Allied Universal Security is the one watching the cameras.

The city is more worried about housing the homeless, paying for services that barely anyone uses that are even worthwhile with little attendence, fixing streets, painting crosswalks and land recognitions. Garbage. YES, KEEP THE CAMERAS. INCREASE FOOT PATROL.
