The WeHo Loves Locals digital gift card is the perfect last-minute gift that actually solves a problem on wet and rainy day normally set aside for last minute shopping. You can buy it online, send it by email, while staying home and avoiding the messy, wet weather.
It’s also an easy way to keep money in West Hollywood. The card can be used at participating local businesses listed on the program site, WeHoLocals.com
Here’s how it works
You pick an amount and a recipient, or send it to yourself, and the digital gift card is delivered by email. When it’s time to use it, it can be spent at any participating business, as long as there’s still a balance.
The list includes a little bit of everything. Food, drinks, wellness, retail, services. On the current roster: The Abbey and Chapel, BOA Steakhouse, Salt and Straw, Pink Dot, Koontz Hardware, Dialog Cafe, Hamburger Mary’s, Ladyhawk, Fiesta Cantina, and more. The full list is posted here, WeHoLocals.com
A couple things to know before you hit buy
This is a digital voucher style card. It’s non-reloadable and there’s no cash access. It also doesn’t expire, but there is an inactivity fee. If the card goes 12 consecutive months without activity, a $3 fee is deducted monthly after that. Activity means something that changes the balance, like a purchase or a refund. If you use it and there’s money left, you can keep using it at other participating locations until it’s gone. If your total is more than what’s left on the card, you’ll need another payment method to cover the rest.
Redemption is also a little old-school. The card is keyed in manually into a business’ POS system like a credit card, it can’t be swiped.
The program notes these gifts are intended for in-store or over-the-phone use with participating merchants. It may not work through third-party delivery apps, since those systems can’t always route payment through a participating merchant’s point-of-sale setup.
Don’t worry if the email doesn’t arrive the second you click purchase. It usually does, but delays can happen. Check spam, and check for any message asking you to confirm details like a phone number.
So, if you’re still hunting for a last minute gift, this is one you can send from home and feel good about. It supports local businesses, and you don’t have to leave the couch! It doesn’t get any easier (or better) than that on a rainy Christmas Eve.
Happy Holidays!
