WeHo’s Horvath Supports L.A. County Emergency Tied to ICE Raids

The LA County eviction moratorium over immigration raids took a step forward after the Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 to declare an emergency—clearing the way for protections that would shield renters who can prove they were financially harmed by federal immigration actions. The moratorium itself will still require a separate vote by the board.

Supervisor Lindsey Horvath—a former West Hollywood City Council member—voted yes and co-authored the motion, saying the county won’t “stand by while fear and chaos spread” and stressing the impact on families, workplaces, and schools.

What would change if the moratorium is adopted? Renters facing documented financial fallout from immigration raids could not be evicted for nonpayment during the emergency period, though back rent would still be owed once protections expire. The emergency declaration also lets the county request state funds to support affected residents.

Landlords, however, are voicing alarm—warning this could feel like COVID-era rent losses just as small property owners are trying to recover. A county staff presentation acknowledged hardships on landlords and floated expanding rent relief as an alternative or companion tool.

The proclamation cites tactics by federal agents that have created a “climate of fear,” disrupting daily life and the regional economy. County officials pointed to an analysis estimating hundreds of millions in potential economic losses tied to the raids. Federal officials maintain the enforcement actions are lawful.

Is this the right fix—or political theater? Supporters call the moratorium a practical shield for neighbors caught in the fallout of immigration sweeps. Critics say it risks feeding a narrative that Los Angeles is “too woke” and that the measure is more symbolism than solution. The real test will be whether the board pairs tenant protections with targeted relief that keeps housing providers whole—so WeHo renters and landlords aren’t pitted against each other.

Because of Lindsay, I bought Outfront Media. They support her and she supports them and I get a dividend. However, I’m still upset that she hasn’t done anything about the aquifer being drained at the corner of Melrose and Almont. These people create a water shortage and then blame everyone else. The area is going to experience sinkholes and other ground related problems. Go to the corner, it’s been draining in the Street drain for years at this point. They’ve tried to cover it up but they can’t. It’s criminal!

The illegals should be deported as soon as possible. They are hurting everyone.

It’s an acknowledgment that their political power is tied to those in our county illegally.

Th D Party continues to push moderate voters into the R Party. it’s also forcing the productive class out of the state.

Spot on with everything. Far left areas like West Hollywood have real estate drop 20% while right leaning areas like Orange County continue to increase. Productive people are moving, and WeHo is now filled with homeless and far fewer productive people. Lifelong Democrats like myself have started voting for a lot of Republicans due to how extreme liberal policies have gotten (Republican ones have also, but frankly, the majority of those don’t impact me personally…the far left policies in our city do).

Rent is outrageous, homes are unattainable, gas prices thru the roof, traffic is a nightmare, towns burned to the ground by a pyromaniac while the mayor was in Africa, homeless galore, trash and graffiti everywhere…. but at least we have good weather!

And now I’m so excited to divert our taxes to support rent and social services for people who broke the law and immigrated here illegally! Thus, Im going to renounce my citizenship, flee south, and return illegally on foot.

Right? How do people below the poverty line get a nice apartment at a 5 star resort like The Pendry with the “low income” units while I’m living in an old mediocre 1 bedroom apartment with a homeless encampment next to the building?

They actually stopped fighting the fire because Biden was visiting Hunter’s granddaughter being born at cedars-sinai. They closed airspace for 8 hours and we’re not able to fight the fire during the visit.

NY Times: The move would allow county officials to provide financial aid to those affected by Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids
Of course she supports it: she’s not a landlord and it’s not her money. Isn’t LA in a budget crisis?

I wish local leaders worked this hard to help those that lost their home in the fires. Fires that should never gotten so bad. They were allowed to cause greater destruction because LA is horribly mismanaged! One bad policy after another. Why are these so-called leaders bending over backwards to help people that have come into the country illegally? It wasn’t too long ago that Democratic leadership was telling people to come here legally and not cut in front of the line. Wasn’t too long ago that Barack Obama was deporting people who entered the country illegally. Cut to a… Read more »
