The City of West Hollywood has selected its new City Manager, Jackie Rocco, to replace David Wilson who is stepping down. The announcement was made at Monday night’s City Council meeting by Mayor Byers.
At the outset of the meeting City Attorney, Lauren Langer spoke:
“Good evening, the City Council convened a special closed session this evening beginning at 5pm. There were no members of the public here to speak on the closed session agenda. The council met in closed session until about 5:25 pm, and with that I will turn it over to the Mayor to continue the announcement.”
Mayor Byers began: “So tonite we are sharing some exciting news from our closed session related to our search for a City Manager. We have over the past several months interviewed more than 70 candidates through our national search for a City Manager position. We narrowed it down to 8 candidates which we interviewed. And we had a second round of interviews with our top 4 candidates, and we believe we have chosen the very best person for our city. She has more than 27 years working in local government, including 17 years working for the City of West Hollywood. She has a Masters Degree from Public Policy from UCLA. And we are very happy to say that we have selected Jackie Rocco as the City of West Hollywood’s next City Manager. This selection is subject to approval of her contract at the December 15th city council meeting. In the meantime a very warm congratulations to Jackie.”
Rocco was currently serving as anAssistant City Manager prior to her selection as the new City Manager.
Prior to becoming the Assistant City Manager, Jackie served as a Deputy City Manager working with infrastructure and development within the City.
She began her career in West Hollywood as the City’s Parking Operations Manager. She later worked in the Economic Development Department as well as Public Works.
Jackie Rocco will be West Hollywood’s first female City Manager.
Congratulations to Jackie Rocco on her selection as the new City Manager! She knows the City inside and out and has a proven track record of working with both residents and business owners to make West Hollywood an even better place to live, work and play.
I am happy for Jackie! She has always been available and willing to discuss any weho issues. And I have found that her feedback is direct and honest.
I wish her very good luck with this new position!
Wow, after all that… an internal hirer. I certainly hope this doesn’t mean more of the same. We can’t afford that.
I had also hoped for an outsider to bring some new perspectives to City Hall but I don’t think Jackie is going to be a David Wilson clone. Her experience with the City is far wider and she has a history of interacting with the residents, something that Wilson lacked. The City Council needs to want to make meaningful changes in how things are done at City Hall but I don’t think the majority of the Council has a particularly visionary view of how government should operate to best serve the residents.
That was a given. After she leaves it will be Danny Rivas and then Janet Jimenez. All put in play by Paul Arevalo and Oscar Delgado
