“Kiss My Ass”: Inside West Hollywood’s Most Complained-About Post Office

The post office at 1125 N. Fairfax Ave. in West Hollywood has collected nearly 300 combined one-star reviews on Google and Yelp. The complaints go back eleven years. They were written by strangers who never met each other, and they describe the same things, over and over.

Rude staff. Broken equipment. Doors locked during posted business hours. Packages opened, contents stolen. Employees who yell at customers, refuse to answer questions, and in at least one documented case, told a customer to kiss their ass.

WEHOonline read the reviews and a 2023 email exchange between a West Hollywood resident and City Hall confirming a physical incident at the location was reported to the City.

One reviewer posted eleven years ago. Another posted last month. The location has not changed.

What the reviews say

“The highest degree of pleasure for employees of this location is the humiliation of customers,” one Google reviewer wrote. Another said she was nervous to go back. One said it made the DMV look like Disneyland. Another said he always leaves feeling the need to write a letter to Congress.

Multiple reviewers, writing independently and years apart, named the same employee. “I believe her name is Eve. She publicly berated multiple guests in line, myself included, and humiliated others,” one reviewer wrote. “Unbelievable. I’m reporting her.” Another described a woman who “got so upset that she said ‘I’m not dealing with you,’ got up and left her window.” Another wrote “I honestly don’t understand how [she] is still employed. The rudest person and worst experience.”

The resident’s complaint

A West Hollywood resident compiled the combined reviews into a 33-page document and sent it to WEHOonline and to the full City Council last week along with a personal account of their experiences at the location. Eve once threw a piece of metal at the counter toward the resident. The resident reported that incident to the City back in April 2023. A City Hall staffer confirmed receipt by email and said she was working to find the right USPS contact. Eve is still working at the location.

On Feb. 28 of this year, the resident said a male employee tampered with money orders he was purchasing and had to redo three of them after the resident complained.

The City has no authority over the post office. It is a federal facility. Council members who received the complaint have no mechanism to compel USPS to act.

USPS response

WEHOonline contacted USPS media relations on Tuesday. A spokesperson said the agency was holding its response for further review of the matter. Following that outreach, a USPS supervisor contacted the resident directly by phone. The supervisor said he was aware of the complaints and had already spoken to the employee involved in the money order incident. When the resident raised the question of reassigning Eve, the supervisor said it was a union job. The resident told the supervisor they were sending the 33-page complaint to Washington.

WEHOonline will update this story as responses are received.

i always love going to the post office on fairfax. i assume their lack of interesting stamps was because it’s a small post office. i’ve never had a problem, i have never seen transients in the lobby of the post office doing anything as suggested. it’s always been a neighborhood p.o. they have a great collection of greeting cards and the employees have for the most part been very agreeable. i’m there to mail a package or a letter or to buy stamps. it ain’t the friendship club, it’s the post office. also the one on beverly is a nightmare,… Read more »

I had a PO Box at this location for just over 30 years. I always paid my Box rental fee on time. One year, I went into this post office to pay the fee two days before I would incur a “fine”, When I arrived at a window the employee told me that the fee was now more than noted on the statement I showed her. She then told me that the fee had changed the day before and there was nothing she could do but for me to send a letter to the district supervisor at the Bicentennial Station… Read more »

One of the reasons that I always use the post office on Doheny…

Beyond treating customers like garbage, they allow a transient population to reside on their loading dock after hours causing an extreme nuisance to the neighbors on Norton. We’ve all witnessed drug use, sex in the open, jerking off, litter, fights, late night screaming and a general unsafe environment for all who walk by. It’s a travesty.

Fortunately, I’ve had only pleasant experiences there.

On the other hand, I’ve had many problems with mail delivery at my residence. For years now.
I wrote Congressman Schiff and now I speak to the supervisor there.
I am sure I never get a straight story, but he takes care of my immediate problems.
There is also an Asian woman who seems to have a leadership position. She’s very difficult to understand, though.

One year, my ballot was delivered late so it was rejected.
Not my fault, but the fault of the mail carrier.

Thanks for the report.

According to a friend, or the mother of a friend who was a career postal worker, it may be difficult to fire Eve, but they can transfer her to a most undesirable location. I once worked for LA County and I saw that happen several times where a difficult employee was transferred to a different work site that required a horrendous commute. Those employees usually resigned or took early retirement. So maybe Eve can find herself enjoying the trek to Downey or Covina.

This is a third world post office at best. The staff is ridiculous and they don’t even stock most types of stamps.

Brian-

Credit to the resident for speaking up and you and WehOnline for following up. I fault the employee’s supervisors for not finding a way to rein in her alleged unprofessional and disrespectful behavior, which they must surely be aware of.

On the other hand the Post Office on Doheny north of Beverly has a very helpful and welcoming staff. The rudest customers I have ever seen frequent the Post Office on Maple and Third in Beverly Hills; the staff there has always been helpful and friendly to me but standing in line you witness a lot of unwarranted abusive behavior by bullying customers.

I feel sorry for the wonderful staff at Doheny. Some of which came from the sorely missed San Vicente branch. The Beverly Station is supposed to supply Doheny with stamps but does a very poor job of it. I once went and spoke to the man in charge at Beverly to no avail. Remember. Louis DeJoy who runs the USPS was appointed by Trump’s Board of Governors. . It’s a train wreck if you have a complaint.

The problems have been happening long before Trump was in charge. Don’t be lazy like that

Paul, Why the character slam? Apology? DeJoy has caused a myriad of problems (see below). My experience at the Doheny branch is a definite by product of Trumpian issues. Here is a breakdown of the problems associated with DeJoy’s tenure: Significant Mail Delays: Implementation of the “Delivering for America” plan and immediate operational changes in 2020 resulted in severe slowdowns for mail and packages, including medicine and, in some cases, critical election mail. Operational Disruptions: Early in his tenure, DeJoy ordered the removal of hundreds of high-speed mail-sorting machines and restricted delivery trips, causing backlogs. Rising Costs and Reduced Service:… Read more »

According to my friends at the Post Office, the Manager orders the stamps more or less on whim, so we never get to see all the stamps issued. The Beverly station is constantly understaffed and the weary line staff are often subjected to the rants of some rather privileged customers. But if you are patient I have always found staff helpful.

I have had multiple rent checks go missing from this post office.
I have complained about, not just this, but the shabby and torn American flag that they never take down. The classic signage falling off. Weeds and trash all over the loading dock.
