“Yola Dore, 30-plus year resident of the City. I have something different to say, and it’s very serious. Pride is usually a time we celebrate every year, all of us, and we’re so proud. But this year, instead of that, we have to worry about random shooters.
We also, the residents of this city, have to worry about the expenditures you have on tonight’s agenda for an ice rink. Huge amount of money. I think the sheriff’s department could use that money. To help, help put on more personnel, get them the tools they need. To catch these random shooters.
How can we celebrate Pride? Are we going to let our visitors know that we have random shooters in their midst? Come on, let’s get proud about this city. Let’s make our WeHo ours.
Fund the sheriff’s department. Give them what they need. Forget about the ice rink. Another time.
Thanks.”
More sheriffs weho has the money
💯 percent what Yola said. Can the damn wasteful ice rink and increase the funding to the sheriff department, while you’re at it can the damn ambassadors, all of them. We have problems in West Hollywood and they’re growing, it’s getting violent: shootings, outsiders creating mini riots, alcohol selling on the street. Let’s stop the irresponsible spending and reroute the funds for safety in our streets and neighborhoods. Hey Erickson, want to impress voters in 24th district (constituents are more interested in your public safety results than your hair style), get some positive Public Safety data going in Weho. And… Read more »
I understand and share the concern about safety. Community events are valuable, but they should never come at the expense of ensuring adequate public safety. In a city as active and visible as West Hollywood, prioritizing resources for safety is essential.
While I don’t have a problem with the holiday ice skating rink, Yola represents the voice of the residents of the Eastside that, in the wake of the two recent shooting, believe that the City Council majority, Erickson, Byers and Hang, have not made public safety a priority. They are still stuck in the “De-Fund the Police” mindset. We won’t forget they opposed Prop. 36, that restored some sanity to criminal sentencing, supported the re-election of the inept George Gascon and that Byers and Erickson voted against the Flock security cameras because they were more concerned about performative “resistance” to… Read more »
Yola Dore for city council!! We need people with common sense on the council! Well said, Ms. Dore!
Yola’s inimitable grace, class, manners and eloquence roar like a line. When she speaks, she does so from a place of good, period. Council should heed her words. I applaud Yola for continuing to show up and speak truth to power.
You and she should run for Council. And Mikie. A good sense trio for WeHo.
I was not there, so I don’t know “If” it was addressed after the comment or even during the meeting at all, but I am going to be super disappointed if the city doesn’t do something equivalent to the ice rink that WILL & DOES address & FUND more safety for residents and visitors. It’s “Random”, I don’t feel safe anymore.
The ice skating rink is such a waste of money and so is the ill timed Sunset Strip Music Festival.
I was so proud of my friend Yola who got up and told them what so many of us are thinking. How sad that the city council didn’t listen to a word she said.
Ice-skating rinks and E-bikes! That was what was important to them tonight. Our safety be damned!
Right on!!! Vote. Them. Out.
Any use of funds is a better use than this ice skating rink.
Yup. So ridiculous.
