A West Hollywood street robbery Wednesday morning left a person without their watch after three suspects surrounded the victim near Cynthia Street and Weatherly Drive and fled in a red Mazda, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A watch commander at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station confirmed the robbery to WEHOonline Wednesday evening. The plate and model on the Mazda are unknown.
Three suspects. The woman was white, about 30, brown hair, and she was driving. The two men wore dark clothing. One had a black mask. They used bodily force to take the watch. No arrests were made as of Thursday morning.
The brazen attack comes just two days after Lt. Ashley Turner of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station presented the department’s May crime numbers to the West Hollywood Public Safety Commission Monday. West Hollywood had 179 Part One crimes in May. West Hollywood West ran the highest share at 53 percent. The Eastside was 27 percent. City Center was 20 percent. Overall Part One crime is down 15.71 percent compared to the same period last year.
Theft numbers up despite overall crime drop
Shoplifting jumped 29.17 percent year over year in May, with grand theft shoplifting up 164.29 percent. Mailroom burglaries are up 52.63 percent year to date. Deputies logged 29 pickpocket thefts in May in the Rainbow District. The year-to-date total is 98. There have been zero pickpocket arrests all year.
There were seven aggravated assaults in May. Three robberies were recorded. Total calls for service hit 1,882, with 87 of those emergencies. Deputies made 63 felony arrests and 131 misdemeanor arrests.
The Flock Safety license plate reader system flagged 32 stolen vehicles in May. The City Council voted to keep Flock earlier this year after a public fight over civil liberties.
Traffic cops gave out 86 citations across two safety operations. There were nine DUI arrests made in May. Four pedestrians were hit by vehicles. Two were at fault for crossing outside crosswalks or violating right-of-way. Two incidents are still being investigated.

Mark Twain famously said that there are “Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics”. The lived reality is that walking the streets of West Hollywood is increasingly fraught, scary, and dangerous. The statistics tell a story that the city bureaucracy likes to spin through many cycles but those statistics belie the reality on the ground. We need people who talk about Vision Zero on crime. Can we be that creative city?
There is no vision zero. People run red lights throughout the town. The cross lights should automatically change to White instead of pressing the button but Vision zero means nothing to these people. Crescent Heights and Norton needs a crosswalk on both sides as well as by sweetzer. One block from City Hall and there’s no crosswalk from Norton to sweetzer.
