As of today, 114 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus. That is an increase of four from the 110 infections reported by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Saturday. That number means one of every 323 WeHo residents has been confirmed to be infected.
The Health Department reported a 12% increase in new confirmed infections countywide, which brings the total to 13,816.
“Today’s dramatic increase in case counts should not cause undue alarm,” the Health Department said in an announcement of the new count. “As part of efforts to increase testing capacity in the county, many new labs responded to the emergency and are working with Public Health to ensure that they have the proper reporting systems in place. Until this reporting issue is resolved, there may be periodic increases in positive cases and total cases due to unevenness in daily reporting.”
Barbara Ferrer, director of the Department of Public Health, also noted that preliminary results from a study with University of Southern California suggest that infections from COVID-19 are more widespread than previously thought, and the death rate is lower.
Eight hundred sixty-three adults in Los Angeles County were tested between April 10 and April 14 using blood antibody testing. “Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county’s adult population has antibody to the virus,” the Health Department reports. “Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county’s adult population has antibody to the virus — which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection.
“That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600. This information helps us better understand how COVID-19 is showing up in our communities.”
“As we plan for our recovery, we are mindful that COVID-19 is a highly infectious virus and we all must continue to do our part to slow the spread,” Ferrer said. “This means keeping our distance at all times, isolating when ill and quarantining if we have been in contact with someone positive for COVID-19.”
The Health Department as of today has confirmed the deaths of an additional 17 people associated with infection with the COVID-19 virus. That brings the total to 617. Thirteen people who died were over the age of 65. Two people who died were between the ages of 41 to 65. One of those who died was between the ages of 18 to 40. Twelve people had underlying health conditions including, 11 people over the age of 65 and one person between the ages of 41 and 65 years.
Beverly Hills saw a large increase in confirmed infections today, with a count of 94, up from yesterday’s count of 80. The number of confirmed infections in Culver City increased by two to 40. The Hollywood neighborhood now has 146 confirmed infections, an increase of 15 from Sunday’s county. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by 10 to a total of 249 today.
With 65 confirmed infections as of today, the Little Armenia neighborhood in Los Angeles continues to have the highest infection rate of the 335 cities and communities surveyed by the Health Department. The Health Department ranks it as having 809.97 confirmed infections per 100,000 people.
There number of infections in the Crestview neighborhood grew by four to a total of 51. With a count of 448.63 infections per 100,000 it is the second most highly infected area. Rancho Dominguez as of today has 10 confirmed infections, which equals 375.8 per 100,000 residents and makes it the third most highly infected area.
The Carthay neighborhood in Los Angeles, with 52 infections, ranks fourth, with 362.04 infections per 100,000 residents. The Hancock Park neighborhood has 58 confirmed infections as of today, which ranks it fifth with 340.4 infections per 100,000 residents. With its 249 infections, the Melrose neighborhood has 320.48 per 100,000 residents and is the sixth most infected area..
West Hollywood is now the seventh most highly infected community, with 308.52 residents per 100,000 having a confirmed COVID-19 infection.
The county has loosened conditions for qualifying for same-day tests, which formerly were reserved for those with symptoms of an infection who were 65 or older or had an underlying health condition such as heart disease. Those who want to be tested now must only exhibit symptoms of a possible infection, which include coughing, a fever, tiredness and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing. Those who want to be tested must first go online to see if they qualify and to book an appointment. A testing site adjacent to West Hollywood is on Alden Drive at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when out in the public procuring or providing essential services. N95 and surgical masks should only be used by healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers providing care for people who are ill.
Essential businesses must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter essential businesses as well. Beaches, trails and trailheads and non-essential businesses remain closed, and all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited.

Could Wehoville please provide some type of graph that would be clear to follow day by day rather than an inconsistent narrative based on different standards containing unfortunate errors. Also if you could indicate the hot spot areas within West Hollywood that you know of, based on infectious cases and deaths if necessary that would provide a more complete picture. Assessing this Covid-19 pandemic would be much clearer if presented as an engineer would provide findings, facts, choices and clear protocols. Anything that may help folks to get on the same page would be beneficial. Only facts provide clarity so… Read more »
The Los Angeles County Department of Pubic Health does not present data that includes the addresses of those confirmed to be infected by COVID-19, and WEHOville would not publish such private data. It also is not possible to determine where a person came into contact with the COVID-19 virus (e.g. grocery store, sidewalk, hospital emergency room). The graph to which you refer is based on the same standard — the daily report by the health department of confirmed infections of West Hollywood residents.
Was certainly not requesting an address or private data however, in other states I believe they are indicating areas within a community. Please check paragraphs 9 & 10 to see errors in the narrative re Beverly Hills. Picking through narratives does not really give as clear a picture as a detailed graph.
