West Hollywood Woman Shot on Her Balcony in Stable Condition; Suspect Still at Large

A West Hollywood woman was shot Thursday evening while standing on her balcony, and whoever fired the gun hasn’t been found.

The shooting happened at 8:45 p.m. on April 9 in the 1000 block of Vista Street. The victim was outside when gunfire erupted in the area. She took a round to the abdomen. One neighbor named Theresa reported hearing 4-5 shots ring out.

“Shots rang out in the area of her balcony where she sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen,” Sgt. Omar Luevano of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station told WEHOonline Friday morning.

She was transported to a local hospital. Luevano said she’s in stable condition and her injuries aren’t life-threatening.

“She was being treated for a non-life-threatening injury,” he said.

Detectives were still on scene Friday, canvassing the block for surveillance footage and other physical evidence. Luevano said it’s still an active investigation.

“They’re still actively investigating out there, looking for possible video and whatnot,” he said.

No suspect has been named. Nobody’s in custody. Investigators don’t currently believe the victim and the shooter knew each other, though they haven’t ruled that out and it’s early.

“There’s no type of connection or relationship at this point, but it’s still early in the investigation,” Luevano said. “We believe we may be able to obtain more evidence, and that’s what the Detective Bureau is still doing at this point.”

Crime Context

The shooting comes against a backdrop of generally falling crime numbers in West Hollywood. The Sheriff’s monthly Part 1 crime report for February showed 112 incidents, down 21 percent from 145 in the same month last year. Year-to-date through February, the City had recorded 257 Part 1 crimes compared to 326 at the same point in 2025. Aggravated assault was down 44 percent year-to-date. Robbery had dropped 40 percent.

Shootings in residential neighborhoods remain comparatively rare. The Vista Street incident follows a pattern the Sheriff’s Station has seen in recent months, where isolated gunfire incidents occur without clear motive or established suspect connections.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. Anonymous tips can be called into Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).

I honestly don’t understand this! Buzzword Byers has proclaimed West Hollywood to be a violence-free city! Are we not to trust her?

She never proclaimed that.

And it’s really sick that your first thought is to type out some sarcastic garbage when someone was shot.
