West Hollywood’s Drag Laureate “Pickle” hosts Story Time at the Getty Center this Sunday

Looking for a vibrant, family-friendly cultural event this weekend? The Getty Center is celebrating self-expression, reading, and the arts with a special edition of Drag Story Time, featuring none other than Pickle, the Drag Laureate of West Hollywood, and the legendary Bob Baker Marionette Theater.

The event takes place on Sunday, September 14, with two showtimes at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Getty’s Central Garden. Best of all — admission is free.

Meet the Performers

Pickle

Drag Laureate of the City of West Hollywood

Pickle is a live-singing drag performer, educator, and host who has made waves across Los Angeles and beyond. A native Angeleno and graduate of Hamilton High School and Sarah Lawrence College, Pickle leads the LA chapter of Drag Story Hour, a national organization dedicated to promoting literacy and inclusivity through storytelling.

She has appeared on national television, including NBC’s The Weakest Link, Discovery Channel’s Dodgeball Thunderdome, and Tyler Perry’s Sistas. In 2023, Pickle was named the first-ever Drag Laureate for the City of West Hollywood — a historic appointment recognizing her leadership at the intersection of art, education, and community.

Bob Baker Marionette Theater

Los Angeles Puppet Legacy Since 1963

Founded in 1963, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater is a treasured L.A. institution and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to puppetry and the allied arts. With over 3,000 handcrafted puppets and decades of performances under their belt, the Theater’s mission is to preserve and innovate a unique art form beloved by generations.

Now based in Highland Park, the Bob Baker team continues to expand programming for children, adults, and the broader community. Expect whimsical, beautifully detailed puppets to bring story time to life in unforgettable ways.
