1. Bumping this back to the top of your inbox. Knowing how generous our readers are, we wanted to remind you of the campaign to keep the legendary Ta-Ke Sushi in West Hollywood.

They still have to move from their current location, but there’s no reason they have to leave to town. Not if you can help them.
If you missed it, Kinoe and Yayoi — the older Japanese couple who ran the iconic Ta-Ke Sushi on the Sunset Strip for more than four decades — aren’t ready to quit. After losing their space at 8866 W. Sunset Blvd. in April to a developer planning a large multi-use hotel across the entire block, the family is actively looking for a new West Hollywood location and hoping the community that supported them for decades will help them get there.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover moving costs and bridge the transition. Ta-Ke was one of the very first sushi restaurants in Los Angeles outside of Little Tokyo — 43 years on the Strip, surviving recessions, a pandemic, and rising costs, before the developers finally came calling. Kinoe still wakes up early to hand-select fish at the market. The family saved most of the décor in boxes. They’re not done. “We have a lot of great customers who have come in for decades,” son Andy said. “We definitely want to be in the area.” Support the family here.
2. Three New Metro Stations Open Next Friday. West Hollywood Should Pay Attention.
On Friday, May 8, three new Metro D Line stations open along Wilshire Boulevard — at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega. That puts rail service within a short walk or bike ride of West Hollywood for the first time. The D Line is the former Purple Line, running underground from downtown Los Angeles through Koreatown and now extending west into the Miracle Mile and Beverly Hills corridor. Future extensions will push it to Century City and Westwood.
Fares are $1.75 with two hours of free transfers between bus and rail. West Hollywood residents who are disabled or over 62 may qualify for City-subsidized passes covering free rides on all Metro buses and trains. The City is also planning a review of its Cityline service to explore better connections to the new stations. And for the longer view — Metro approved the K Line Northern Extension through West Hollywood in March, meaning this city will eventually have its own rail stop. The D Line opening next week is a preview of what that could look like. More at metro.net/d-line-extension and go.weho.org/transit.

4. A Woman Was Airlifted Off a Simi Valley Trail Yesterday. Sound Familiar?
KTLA reported yesterday afternoon a woman was bitten by a rattlesnake, this time on Long Canyon Trail in Simi Valley. She was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition. It was the seventh reported rattlesnake bite in SoCal since mid-March. Seven. Emergency personnel are urging hikers to stay on marked trails and carry a charged phone. Don’t step over logs or rocks if you can’t see what’s on the other side. If bitten — call 911 immediately, stay calm, limit movement. No tourniquet. Don’t try to suck out the venom. Both make it worse. Simi Valley isn’t Runyon Canyon. But the dangers and the snake is the same — the Southern Pacific rattlesnake — the habitat is nearly identical. Chaparral, brush, rocky trails. We covered this in depth last month after two deaths in Southern California before peak season even started. That season is here now. Keep your eyes and ears open.
