The number of COVID-19 infections continues to increase in West Hollywood and the rest of Los Angeles County. As of noon today, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that 86 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to be infected, up from 83 reported on Sunday. To date there have been 6,360 cases confirmed across the county, a 7% increase over the 5,940 infections confirmed on Sunday.
Of those infected, 147 have died so far, up from a count of 127 on Sunday.
The Health Department data means one of every 429 West Hollywood residents has been confirmed to be infected. Health experts predict that at least 25% to 50% of those infected may not know it because they haven’t yet exhibited symptoms.
While West Hollywood continues to have a high number of infections per capita, with 240.24 infections per 100,000 residents, the ratio now is higher in L.A.’s Crestview neighborhood, which has 29 infections (253.36 per 100,000) and Little Armenia, with 19 infections (250.99 per 100,000 residents). The Health Department report covers all of L.A. County’s 335 cities, unincorporated areas, and Los Angeles City neighborhoods.
The Melrose neighborhood West Hollywood had 147 confirmed infections as of noon today, up from 140 confirmed on Sunday. The Hollywood neighborhood to the east of West Hollywood had 100 confirmed infections as of noon today, up from 96 on Sunday. There was no increase today in the 65 infections confirmed as of Sunday in Beverly Hills. Culver City had 27 confirmed infections, up from 26 reported on Sunday.
“The best community and individual defense against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home and wearing a face covering when out procuring or providing essential services,” the Health Department said, reiterating its advice.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Public Health are recommending that the general public wear non-medical cloth face coverings when interacting with others while obtaining essential supplies and services. Wearing a cloth face covering does not eliminate the need to physically distance yourself from others and to wash your hands frequently.
“Members of the general public should use a clean face covering anytime they will be in contact with other people who are not household members in public or private spaces. You are asked to wear a cloth face covering over your nose and mouth when you must be in public for essential activities, such as shopping at the grocery store.
“They are an additional tool that can protect others from possible exposure to respiratory droplets that may come from our mouth when we talk, sneeze or cough. N95 and surgical masks should only be used by healthcare workers, first responders, essential workers providing care for people who are ill, and people who are ill.”
Los Angeles County has opened up COVID-19 testing options. People who have symptoms and are 65 or have underlying health conditions such as heart disease or diabetes or are subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine period due to a confirmed COVID-19 exposure (with more than 7 days of quarantine
remaining can apply for testing online.
The Public Health Department continues to remind people: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever and symptom free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.
