Oct 11: Women’s Empowerment Film Day Comes to WeHo

The City of West Hollywood is partnering with Girls Just Wanna Have Funds, LLC to present a full day of inspiring and thought-provoking women-centered cinema on Saturday, October 11, at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers. The event, titled “A Triple Header Day of Women’s Empowerment Movies,” will run from 9 AM to 5 PM, with three powerful films celebrating the voices, achievements, and ongoing struggles of women across business, politics, and pop culture.

The day includes exclusive in-person appearances, a free book giveaway for early VIP ticket buyers, and two post-screening panel discussions.

Film Schedule

10:00 AM – Show Her The Money
This award-winning documentary explores the gender gap in venture capital, spotlighting female entrepreneurs and the investors backing them. Despite women founding nearly half of all businesses, they receive less than 2% of VC funding.
Director Ky Dickens and executive producer Sharon Gless (of Cagney & Lacey, Queer as Folk, Burn Notice) will appear in person.

1:00 PM – Lilly
A dramatic retelling of Lilly Ledbetter’s landmark fight for equal pay, which led to the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act by President Obama. Featuring Patricia Clarkson, the film will be followed by a panel discussion and awards ceremony.
Producers Yoti Sarda and Nimble Media LLC are scheduled to attend.

3:00 PM – Still Working 9 to 5
This documentary revisits the classic film 9 to 5 and the enduring workplace equality movement it inspired. Featuring behind-the-scene interviews with Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dolly Parton, the film is a reminder of how far we’ve come—and how far we still have to go.
Directors Camile Harman and Gary Lane will be on hand for a post-screening panel and awards ceremony.

Early Perks for VIPs

The first 100 VIP ticket buyers will receive a free copy of the bestselling Show Her The Money coffee table book, valued at $50. The morning will kick off with a book signing from 9–10 AM, featuring the film’s executive producers: Sharon Gless, Catherine Gray, Dawn Lafreeda, and Diana Greshtchuk.
