Sunday, August 23rd was Women’s Equality Day in West Hollywood. The festivities took place in Fiesta Hall, at Plummer Park and was hosted by the Women’s Advisory Board. Chair Torok led off the days events which included a short film, guest panel and luncheon.
On hand were Mayor Byers, Vice Mayor Heilman, Council member Meister, and Council member Erickson along with members of the Women’s Advisory Board, city staff and members of the public.

Mayor Byers welcomed the crowd, thanked the staff for their work. “We know that so many of the issues that affect people’s lives in this city disproportionately affect the lives of women. And this year we will be uniquely tackling these issues, things like childcare, nightlife safety, even our drink spike kits all these tools to make the community and especially the women in our community feel safer.”
Vice Mayor Heilman echoed the Mayor’s comments and added “there is so much more work that needs to be done to achieve full equality for women and girls, and I’m glad your having this conversation today and I know that I can speak on behalf of the entire council to say that we are with you all the way for women’s equality.”
Council member Erickson thanked everybody and recounted his days as being an intern for the Women’s Advisory Board, and continued “please stay cool but turn up the heat on those who are trying to take your rights away”
Council member Meister “I want to be positive and it’s hard to be positive when we look at the national landscape and the fact that there are actually people out there saying we want to take away a women’s right to vote. And that to me is the scariest thing so thats why we have to keep doing this and working together and be united. Because otherwise, divide and conquer they are going to try to take our right to vote away.”
“Women’s Equality Day is also a time to show our appreciation of women. Women in our lives, women in our work, women at home, women in our families, our moms, our grandmothers, so thank you, on behalf the whole council thank you for being here”.
Mayor Byers concluded, “Thank you to the Women’s Advisory Board for bringing this together.”

Erickson heading to a BBQ? What the hell. Dress the part.
I wish women were really valued in West Hollywood, but it’s certainly not the case. John Erickson got his start as president of the National Organization of Women in West Hollywood, Such a slap in the face to much more qualified women in the group.
On his FIRST DAY as President, Trump signed an Executive Order (EO) dismantling “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) programs. Right-wingers often use “DEI” as an all-encompassing phrase synonymous with perceived discrimination against white men with denial of historical racism & sexism that programs & Civil Rights Laws were intended to remedy. The EO targets NOT ONLY federal government equity measures but also targets advances in the private sector in equitable hiring, equal pay and, anti-discrimination for Women. Many companies are now using this “evolving legal landscape” to end their past DEI goals, like Goldman Sachs, Accenture, Pepsi, and Citigroup.
NO one showed up
Why should they? Just a silly event instead of focusing on the basics of running a city.
Let’s see Women make up about 52% of the population and with their Civil Rights now being seriously threatened it’s likely to make a whole lot more than “the basics of running a city” a whole lot more difficult.
As someone with a wife and a daughter….you’re the last person to be lecturing here.
So why would you say something that stupid? Nearly all of the most misogynist men like Trump have had wives and daughters and, nothing I’ve seen of your postings gives any indication of you being a well educated feminist or even the least bit open minded!
PLEASE consider the current political climate with non-whites being hauled away if unable to prove their citizenship (I ran into this), the right of Women abortion access & contraception is effectively ended and, oppressive police state measures being implemented throughout the country ❗
My reason for not showing up has to do with the loss of protections where my employment and physical safety is now openly threatened by MAGAs!
LOL
Good grief, that is really serious and NOT funny ❗
It’s super funny.
No, super funny was when Emilija told you big time❗🤣
