The City of West Hollywood is excited to announce its co-sponsorship of The Vanderpump Dog Foundation’s 8th Annual World Dog Day, a vibrant celebration of canine companions. This family-friendly event will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at West Hollywood Park, located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Admission is free, and all dogs must be on leashes.
World Dog Day 2025 promises a tail-wagging good time with live music, vendor booths, raffles, and activities for dogs and their owners. West Hollywood Park, including its dog parks, will remain open to the public, with waste bags and stations provided to keep the area clean.
The event shines a spotlight on the joy dogs bring while raising awareness about global animal welfare issues, particularly the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China. Held annually starting June 21, this festival involves the capture, caging, and slaughter of over 10,000 dogs, many stolen from their owners or subjected to inhumane conditions. The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, a key organizer of World Dog Day, is dedicated to ending this cruelty through education, advocacy, and rescue efforts.
West Hollywood has long championed animal rights. In 2016, the City passed a resolution condemning the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. It was the first U.S. city to ban cat declawing in 2003, prohibited the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores in 2010 to combat puppy mills, and enacted a fur sales ban in 2013.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation works tirelessly to improve the lives of dogs worldwide by promoting legislation, raising awareness, and supporting rescue initiatives. World Dog Day is a cornerstone of these efforts, uniting the community in celebration and advocacy.
Dog owners are also invited to explore West Hollywood’s dog-friendly amenities, including two dog parks at West Hollywood Park—one for small dogs and one for larger breeds—featuring open spaces, shade, and water stations. The William S. Hart Park and Off-Leash Dog Park at 8341 De Longpre Avenue offers another great spot for canine fun.
