Xavier Becerra Stops in West Hollywood for Micky’s Campaign Event

Xavier Becerra was at Micky’s on Thursday for a campaign stop.

In an attempt to embarrass Becerra, The New York Post ran a story claiming the event was a flop, posting a photo of an empty bar. Problem is, the photo was taken before the doors opened. “The doors weren’t even opened yet,” said Micky’s operations manager Adam Eramian. About 90 people attended. By all objective accounts, the event was a complete success said Eramian.

Eramian booked the event after the campaign reached out last week asking for a low-key LGBTQ venue. “When I was contacted that Javier Becerra wants to have an event — an LGBTQ event at an LGBTQ venue — I jumped on it,” Eramian said. The campaign’s ask was to keep it quiet.

Becerra arrived around noon. “This event was amazing,” Eramian said. “He was there from 12 to 1:30.”

He took the floor with a mic and talked to supporters inside the iconic venue. “Becerra Era” signs were up along the stage behind him. He took questions after he spoke. “He took the time to talk to everyone,” Eramian said.

One moment got a laugh from the crowd. Becerra thanked everyone for their support. Tom DeMille, who uses a wheelchair, had a comeback ready. “Well, I can’t stand, but I’m for you,” DeMille said. Becerra laughed along with the room.

Eramian said Becerra’s manner made an impression. “He’s personable. He’s approachable,” Eramian said. “He’s someone you could sit down and have a beer at Micky’s with.” On LGBTQ issues, Eramian didn’t hedge. “He is so friendly to the LGBTQ community — to our trans brothers and sisters, to our entire LGBTQ family,” Eramian said. “He is so supportive.”

He’s the current frontrunner in the California governor’s race, five days out from Tuesday’s June 2 primary. A Public Policy Institute of California poll out Wednesday put him at 23 percent. Republican Steve Hilton was at 20. The top two finishers go to November.

Becerra’s been direct about where he stands on LGBTQ rights. “Trans folks are people, and we owe them the ability to protect them and their rights,” he said. Equality California endorsed him in April. “California needs a governor who has not only spoken out, but taken action to defend our community,” said Tony Hoang, the group’s executive director.

He was Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services from 2021 to 2025. California’s attorney general before that. Twenty-four years in Congress before that.

He got into the governor’s race in April 2025. “California is at a crossroads,” he said. “Working families are facing an affordability crisis. The California Dream is slipping away.”

Eramian said he knows who he’s voting for. “I’m voting for him because he has the experience and the knowledge,” he said. “He knows California.”

West Hollywood voters can cast a ballot in person at the Vote Center inside Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd, open daily through June 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mail ballots can be dropped at one of the City’s three yellow drop boxes — at Plummer Park, City Hall at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd, or the West Hollywood Library at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. Full Vote Center and drop box locations are at locator.lavote.gov.

A vote for this guy would be like voting for another Gavin Newsom. We can’t afford that. It’s nice that he panders to the gays…but we need to get over ourselves and vote for better policy. Democrats have had control of this state for 20 years. Look where their policies have gotten us: Extreme cost of living High taxation High unemployment Severe homelessness Rising energy costs Skyrocketing insurance rates Infrastructure strain On top of that: California carries roughly $500 billion in total state liabilities, the highest of any U.S. state. When factoring in local municipal debts, that number exceeds $1 trillion. A massive portion of this is driven by unfunded… Read more »

It gladdens my heart to hear that our next Governor thought to take the time to meet with West Hollywood residents. I trust that he will remember us when in office, unlike Byers, Erickson, and Hang.

So Becerra panders to you for a few minutes and it glades your heart. Becerra will do exactly what Byers, Hang, and Erickson ave done but on a much grander scale.

I wish I could have been there. I voted for Becerra already – first day at in-person voting last Saturday. I trust him and we are aligned on core issues; plus Becerra champions our community and understands our challenges.

I don’t need a champion for my “community,” I need good policies for my state. His policies are the same as Newsom’s. The state can’t afford to keep going down the same road. We are a state in decline. I don’t care that he comes and kisses the asses of the gays. I want good policies: low taxes, cut waste/fraud, be tough on crime, cut the regulations preventing new housing from being built, address the homeless situation for what it is – a mental health and drug addiction problem. That’s why I’m voting for Hilton. I don’t care that he… Read more »

Agreed–Steve Hilton can return California to being a wonderful, safe state envied by the world. I don’t care what gay clubs a candidate visits. I want to see this amazing Golden State shine again, and Steve Hilton is the man to do it. And if we have to bring a gay agenda to this scenario, I will also add that he is one hot Daddy. 🔥

The career politician who gave Newsom an A on homelessness, who sees no problem with the gas tax, who wants single payer health care (a failure in most countries), who is considered by former Biden officials to have been ineffective and absent, and who lost track of 85,000 migrant children. Becerra is a danger to California.
