As Los Angeles County prepares to move into the less restrictive “orange tier” for reopening at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, COVID numbers continue going down on Sunday.
Moving into the orange tier means movie theaters, restaurants, churches, museums, zoos and aquariums can go from 25% to 50% of capacity, while gyms will be increased from 10% to 25%.
The county will still enforce certain rules that are stricter than what the state allows. Most notably, bars that don’t serve food, while being permitted to reopen outdoors only, will be limited to operating from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a required 8-foot distance between outdoor tables.
There are 590 people currently in the hospital in Los Angeles County according to county health officials. That’s 6 less than on Saturday when there were 596 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
There are currently 151 people in the ICU, according to the state, down from 158 on Friday. The county’s total ICU capacity is about 2,500 beds.
LA County health officials announced 3 more COVID-related deaths on Sunday. The cumulative death toll in LA County is 23,275 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day occurred on Jan. 8 with 318 deaths. The second highest occurred on Jan. 30 with 316 deaths.
LA County reported 535 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,222,114 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, over 6.13 million people in the county have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began.
West Hollywood recorded 2 new cases; the cumulative total is 2,234 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative total is 36 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 4 new cases for a total of 2,611 cases and 32 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 1 new case for a total of 913 cases and 72 deaths.
- Century City – 1 new case for a total of 597 cases and 14 deaths.
- Culver City – 2 new cases for a total of 2,164 cases and 104 deaths.
- Hollywood – 3 new cases for a total of 5,401 cases and 65 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 6 new cases total of 8,062 cases and 204 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 1 new case for a total of 953 cases and 15 deaths.
- Park La Brea – no new cases for a total of 604 cases and 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 9 new cases for a total of 4,639 cases and 179 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
