Bill Maher, who once lived in WeHo, gets it sort of right when he describes the “gay agenda.” “The gay agenda — you know, I once lived in West Hollywood. I know what the gay agenda is: 8 o’clock Starbucks, 9 o’clock tanning salon, 10 o’clock the gym. That’s the gay agenda,” the HBO “Real Time” host said in a criticism of homophobes who argue that support for gay marriage is about advancing a purported “gay agenda.” Bill, we must politely disagree. Gay boys hitting the gym in WeHo at 10 a.m. are either doing that on the weekend or they are bouncers, bartenders or go go boys who’ve danced until 2 a.m., making an 8 a.m. coffee stop and a 9 a.m. tanning session unlikely. We’d argue that the gay agenda, at least on the WeHo weekend, doesn’t start until 11 a.m., with a latte at the Big Gay Starbucks.
