Nighttime parking on two more blocks in West Hollywood may be restricted to residents if the City Council approves petitions to designate them as “preferential parking” areas at its April 7 meeting.
A majority of residents of the block of Romaine Street between Genesee and Spaulding avenues have signed a petition requesting that parking be limited to residents who have acquired a parking pass between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., seven days a week. That block is within the city’s Preferential Parking District 10 and any resident with a District 10 pass would be able to park on that block.
The Council also will be asked to designate 900 block of North La Jolla Avenue, which is in Preferential Parking District 9, as restricted during the same hours to residents of that district who have a parking pass. The 900 block is between Willoughby Avenue and Romaine Street.
The city has 10 preferential parking districts that cover almost all of its 1.89 square miles.
The City Council will consider the requests at its April 7 meeting, which is at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., south of Santa Monica.
@manny Actually benefits are a common figure looked at when looking to hire people as a perk of the position and also as the true value in compensation on a position. The states web site that shows pay also factors in benefits. In the end the point is our city manger is well paid bottom line, And in my years here all i’ve seen is a a city exploited for how much development can be slipped in with out the residents approval along with every thing parking going up. @shawn…..Any decent employer is obligated to pay benefits (fringe) to their employees. Therefore I feel it’s unfair to include a benefits package when discussing “salary” as you did.
But even when including fringe, your numbers are still too high.

@ manny I stand corrected on the $10 million dollar figure. Some times I type quicker than I should. The actual figure used now is $100 million. It is beyond comprehension that each block has to beg and grovel the city for parking restrictions. I bet my bottom dollar that everyone on council, and indeed probably every city employee that actually live in the city, live on streets with restricted parking! WHY is it incumbent for citizens to go door to door to get signatures for parking restrictions? That is really DUMB! Why not have permit parking every where in WeHo since it is such a magnet for unsavory “visitors”, especially on weekends. I know you’re trying to prove a point about density and free parking. But to use incorrect numbers and preferential parking privileges as a way to prove that point….is pointless.
Shouldn’t you just be happy that the City is offering a valuable parking convenience to the residents on Romaine?
To me its the city leadership that is to blame for the residents needing to ask for this. How you ask, by allowing the zoning laws to be manipulated to developers favor and inserting more and more density into the city with out enough parking to handle what we have already? The greedy in city leadership has been or a policy agenda to want more and more money from visitors and residents? Who does this really help by making it cost more to shop and visit weho? Residential Permit Parking is one of the best things you could hope for in your neighborhood. I hope the Council approves this addition.
